Do it yourself!! www.vfaq.com Is going to be your best friend. What "parts" are you thinking about putting on your car? Use the search button, You have more info on this site than you will ever need.
Just research everything about your car and if you have any question make sure you search first then if you can find the answer post it up. Good luck and have fun learning all about your DSM.

I agree with the two previous posters, the experince in putting in the parts is one of the most valuable things.

Lets put it like this.

3 years ago I purchased my car, I could barely change a tire.

In that time, I have done a auto to 5 speed swap, built my own engine ( entire thing ) and I do all my own tuning with DSMLink.

Start slow, putting on a intake and exhaust, move up to FMIC, injectors, AFPR, Fuel pump brakes and then move into the harder things, transmission, cams etc.

These cars may look hard to work on but in reality, they are quite easy. If you need any assistance we can help you online but you will save money working on it yourself and gain some confidence as well.

I have taken on and off my tires using only a scissor jack so many times that once when I had a flat tire, I changed it out to the spare within 5 minutes. It was disturbingly fast.

To the OP.. I agree with the majority in saying you should do the work yourself. Use the money you save to upgrade the car

Like everyone else said doing it yourself is really the best way to go about it. Not only will you be saving yourself money but you'll also be gaining so much more knowledge then just paying someone else to do it. Then you one day could be the guy putting on those parts and having someone pay you. It always helps to know how to fix something you never know when you'l be stranded on the side of the road with nothing but your tools in the hatch. ( I hope its not just me that carries tools everywhere they go)

It really is quite beneficial to slowly learn and attempt things yourself. Always good to start with the small stuff, and to definatly do as much research as possible before hand so you have a clear idea of what you are doing!

do as much reading and research as you can, look at diagrams and doing it yourself is a lot better than taking it to a shop, and you look better among friends and others, plus you just may learned the best way to save money.

It might have also been the fact that I was late for a party with lots of booze. The guy at the gas station said I had a flat so I got out, looked, and went to my trunk and got all the stuff I needed. Then proceeded to spin the handle really fast. I think that's where it takes the most time but I got it down like an art.

I think if you are mechanically inclined do it yourself, or learn how to on vfaq and on here.

I personally would not because I am not a good mechanic, I am good at plenty of other things so I stick to those things. I found me an expert mechanic on DSMs that I can trust to do a great job, and that gives me very fair pricing. I feel I get more than what I pay for.

All in all...if this GIRL can do the work herself...any guy can do it. I have half the muscle mass and with a little effort and a LOT of research, I've managed to build myself a very nice machine.
