I just became the owner of my second 2g DSM. I also recently became aware that it has been burning oil because of the turbo. The bearings are shot and I need a new one. Being a tuner, I immediately thought of purchasing an upgraded turbo...but, since this car is quite new to me, I have yet to make any basic mods. It was not in my plan to upgrade the turbo this soon, but since I need to purchase one anyway, I was wondering what size turbo I can get away with, and what mods would be needed...

there are alot of assisting mods that go with a turbo.
it is not a good first mod, i would go with an exhaust, downpipe, clutch or new intake depending on wheather or not your motor is any good. as a dsm fan I'm sure you know about the crank walk issue. and i always get told by my good friend to do your own preventative maintenance on it first. i know this does not answer your initial ? but it is just a precaution

good luck with your dsm

go with a 14b. it's the stock 1g turbo and is bigger than the stock 2g turbo. you can get away with it without doing any other mods right now and they're cheap.

or keep the boost way down and get a 16g so when you really want to start modding you can build on that, a fuel pump is cheap and easy to put in and will help with a new bigger turbo whatever it may be

why not simplify and get a t28? no modification necessary (ie jpipe for the 14b and 16g)

I think you need to decide how hard core you want to go with the car first. If you plan on getting a 20G or a T3/T4 sometime in the future i would just go with a 14b or maybe even another T25, which ever one you can find for the lowest price. If the biggest turbo you will want to run in going to be a 16G then i would just get that and keep the boost low until you get your other mods. Thats just me though.

OK first off, is the car auto or manual. getting off the subject a bit. my buddy has a 2g that is awd and auto, his t-25 shit the bed, so he went out and bought a forged t-28 that has a 16g compressor wheel in it.

everything is stock, except he has a boost controller.
and gages.
plus a 1g bov.

he runs at like 16psi.

so i would just get a forged t-28. :|
till you get all the supporting mods, for like an evo 16g or something of that nature.

it is manual..

i'd just buy the 14b and save up until you can get supporting mods and then get an evo 16g i love mine :D

14b will get you by for now, plus you will already be in place to install at 16g without really changing anything like your would with the t25.

t28, easier than any td05h turbo (for a direct bolt-on to a 2g)

Big 28 or Killer Big 28 is the way to go if you dont want the headache of bolting up a Mitsubishi turbo on a 2g.
