Sounds like it could be a problem with getting proper oil pressure to the head. When you bought you lifters, were they easy to compress?

I think its the type of oil im using.
Im using castrol gx 10w40.
Im going to try 5w30.
The lifters were brand new and 100% perfect. I got them from partsdinosaur the same place some of my friends have gotten theirs from, and theirs work perfect.

Well, I just got everything finished. No more boost leaks, no vac leaks, everything working just the way it should.

I was getting on the expressway and SNAP, there goes my timing belt. 1800 miles on it, and it snapped... wtf... Its a Goodyear Gator Back, so I'm getting ahold of goodyear and finding out if they have any warrenties or anything. Well, my DSM only runs for about 3-5 days everyother month or so... If the valves are toast, I'm not going to even try to get it running until winter is over...

within two weeks time:

3tows
waterpump
4brand new tires(blew front 2 at same time) idk

what a headache

Why not go with an OEM belt? If you got that belt at AutoZone, you wasted your money. They are an absolute piece of shit.

My last timing belt that snapped I bought at Smyth Automotive. Im not sure if there any other stores outside of here, but my dad was good friends with the owners, so we trusted them. WRONG. Took it to my mechanic who always cuts me a deal, and put a belt on it from NAPA, and no problems with any of their products.

That sucks. I can feel your pain, my car has been on jackstands getting built, wont have it out for a while. There are a few things you should get OEM: one of those being a timing belt. I heard toda racing has a really sick kevlar belt for around 200. Its alot but talk about piece of mind. :thumb:

god damn it do not tell me that...
I have one of those damn things...

frackin great, now I gotta get another/different one... How much are they at the dealer?

I just want this to last long enough to get rid of this thing...
I am going to the dark side, I want something that will actually run worth a shnit.

It could have been anything else. There are so many things that could have helped it snap. Longer oil pan bolts, balance shaft belt, old or faulty auto tensioner, rusty pulleys, timing belt covers rubbing, bent metal timing belt cover mounts, improper auto tensioner set-up (approx 4mm gap, etc), etc.

BUT you should ALWAYS buy a mitsu belt. Don't spend an extra $10 later to save $3 now.

You hate your car? Well, that's a start.

Add about 6 billion other things to your list and you'll be on my level.

Gatorbacks have a warrenty. Take that POS shit back and tell them u want your money back.

As for the possable valve damage, that blows big time :|

The only types of belts I would ever touch are OEM, HKS and those other Pwhoweveryouspell it belts SBR sells. The kevlar ones.
A Gatorback warranty? What are they gonna do besides give you a new belt? If you pursue it far enough, you may get them to get you a new head but is it really worth all the time then to buy a used head and throw it back on. Kind of a hard lesson learned but it will make you think twice about using anything other then what has been "proved".

Yeah, the front bumper is riding shotgun. I had to bend my intercooler upward so it didn't get smashed on the way up the tow truck.

I wasn't aware that one timing belt was better than the other. I do have the 420a motor, not the 4g63... The car is still sitting at my buddies house, so I haven't gotten to work on it yet. I'm getting it back to my place today. First thing is a compression test.

a few months ago when you were showing off your new engine, i asked you why you didnt run a top timing cover.. you said "i dont drive it much, its not needed, it wont break".. Look where we are now.. Truly sucks.

How are you planning to do a compression test without a timining belt? WTF maybe a leak down test...?

If the valves are toast, their bent already, so I won't have to worry about bending them if I turn it over. I'm going to set the cam's timing then put the gauge in and turn it over. If the valves are good, they should be shut causing compression. If their bent, I'll get nothing.

Yea, i know how you feel....im gettin kinda sick of one thing after the other breaking. Im bout to seriously buy a honda or a Haro or something. Im beginnin to think im not supposed to own a talon :sosad:

Sorry to hear about your bad luck. Was the timing belt installed by a shop or was it done by yourself? If a shop did it I would be knocking on their door. It could be many things that made it snap so soon but more than likely the tension was not set properly. Very important step when installing the belt is checking the gap to make sure you have the proper amount of tension. Best of luck, this one is not going to be cheap.

Alright...my car was about a quart low on oil so I went and picked some up, poured it in and drove around and the car seemed fine. I go home and get ready to leave about thirty minutes later and I dont know whats going on with the car! It runs and will hit boost but the car seems like its bogging down. The car vibrates even when at idle. :notgood: So I go out and take my motorcycle instead and figure Ill deal with it when I get home. I start it up later and its fine! So I say alright whatever, and the car did it again the next night after driving it around during the day, and as Im driving it while its crappy it just clears itself up out of nowhere and runs fine. I dont know if the oil has anything to do with this, and also on my a/f monitor on my turbotimer its going up to like 17.6 I didnt know if thats normal or what...Sorry Im just really confused and dont know how to approach the problem..Also my cars throwing a code but its only my egr sensor and I doubt that would have an affect on the car but I dont know..Thanks a lot :talon:

If your EGR is bad that could very well be the problem. Sometimes the valve can get stuck open(bad solenoid) and allow hot gasses to pass through the reciruclation tube and get into the intake, back into the combustion chamber and mix with the compressed air, causing a misfire.. Seems to me like the valve is sticking open at times, then the signal gets sent, then closing and so on and so forth.

I dont think the egr itself is bad? Just the sensor since my car is from california. Also would this be a constant problem or random like mine. It runs fine about half the time and others it runs choppy. It doesnt misfire or anything like that. While I was pouring in the oil a little dripped onto the spark plugs. Could this be the problem? Would a car running on 3 cylinders run like this? Thanks
