Wow...all i have heard from people is that these cars are Peices of crap....Then someone always chimes in and says Mine runs great and i've beat the shit out of it....i guess some cars just don't liek certain owners.

yes i know my car isnt 200hp its only a 1.8L but i did alot of mods to it...its at 130-140(?) range maybe +/-.

Dont get me wrong i take care of my car, oil changed every 3k (synthetic high milage) plugs n wires changed religiously. I just dislike the fact that after modding it its unreliable. And i know if u mod a v8 to a point it will be unreliable becasue its hard to have 500hp yet still easily go from Maine to California without breaking something.

LOL and no im not like the guy that is giving up on his laser...i think hes dumb casue it sounds like he blew a head gasket on his second engine (white smoke) and he still kept going when he said his enigne was starving for oil.....thats very stupid... stop the car if u got no oil damn it. As for his first 'rebuilt' engine messing up on the rings....how the #### do u mess that up...who ever rebuilt or had that engine was a meathead.

Since the engine is going out to get the belt replaced i think im gona make my car a TSi and throw a 4g63t in and go all or nothing when that blows #### im a drive the car off a cliff and geta 99 talon (i think im addicted to dsm)

Wow you must of done quite a few mods to get that 1.8 bleeder up to 140HP! Props on that if so.. As far as your engine isn't that a non-interference engine?? Meaing Belt goes, Valves stay right? If so you should be alright but youz best figure out why that snapped after only 10K miles.. And, yeah, screwed up how doing burnouts and such is more fun when your drunk huh.. LOL. be careful.

And, as for your Camaro buddy, does he Rock the mullet..

Ha.....The only reason why people hate DSM's is because they do not treat them properly. They go out and tear the car up and beat on it and if something breaks.....They call the car a POS or unreliable.

I have proved that therory wrong. I have owned my car for about 7 months!!!! And NOTHING has broke. I have a nice set of mods also and I drive my car everyday. I only had to replace a CV Shaft due to a torn boot.

Wow........So unreliable

Learn how to drive a car kid and respect it.

I did race it a bit with my friends, did a few hard burnouts casue i was drunk (its the alcohols fault :shhh:  ) beat a civic, ford fukus and chevy impala (1996 350 v8) but its a boat.

So you get drunk and then go racing and doing burn outs? :thumbdown Maybe you deserve the timing belt snapping. As far as DSMs being unreliable, I really can't agree. I've had mine for over two years and put 40k on it and it left me stranded on the side of the road once when the alternator shorted out. Also how can you say that your car was well mantained when you had a leaking head gasket? Just changing the oil and spark plug wires doesn't qualify as good mantinace. If you feel the need to go get drunk and do stupid shit with your car at least do it someplace where you will only hurt or kill yourself and not innocent people.

I agree with 99redgst, nothing pisses me off more than somebody bragging about being drunk and driving.

I think young kids liek myself need to take the alternative route on ownign there first DSM...Get the N/T model...Ok so boost is great and all yes....but do you hear the N/T guys complaing as much as the turbo guys?....Treat the car with respect and it will treat you right....but all these Young guys have Turboed DSM's and like you said barely make any money....stick to the 'lower end' of the community....besides it still looks the same....just isn't as fast...but who hasta knwo that when it's parked :shhh: You guys are giving DSM's a bad rep when plenty of people on here take respect and pride in there cars and have no problems except minor stuff.

Thats right. DSM's don't use any different parts than most other mitsubishi's and such; its all pretty much the same. My car too has seen only a few days of downtime in the past year, all due to failure of aftermarket parts which were replaced under warrantee. Properly treated DSM= :thumb:

Correct. Anyone that says that their DSM has been down since day one they bought it. Has been abusing their car. Granted I do turn the boost up to 15lbs on the weekends and play around abit. But I know the limits and I stick with them. Proper maintence is the key.

Plus.....Young kid+nice fast car= Young kid that bitches too much

yea dude, dsm's are shit for reliability, good luck with everything.

You guys' DSMs must be different, because mine is as reliable as I make it.
Most of the parts in my profile have been there since I bought the car in March, and it's still running strong. My dad's 96 Corolla goes in for more work than my car does. :thumb: for reliability.

Ok today i had off but a lot of HW to do. Ok well i just got my new oil return line in from forced performance all new and shinny. I am thinking to myself it should only take at MAX an hour , i figure i would run to pep-boys get it some fresh oil and filter (i needed the change). I get back , jack car, drain oil. Unbolt old oil return line (reason replacing, leaks). Ok grab the new return line, put some gasket seal on there, pop it on bolt top portion up but the end was still wiggling. Hmmmm maybe not tight enough little tighter, still wiggles! What’s wrong , fine i say one more turn , BREAKKKKKKKKK the MOTHER#!@$@!# FU@#$@$@ head snaps !!! OMG OMG OMG I go to the store get easy outs, i figure a way i can get my arms in the tight spot up top and hammer it in. Try to turn it , its breaks !! OMG OMG OMG 3-4 hrs later, what do i have ? a car with no oil in it, unable to bolt back oil return line, and store was out of the bolts i needed. What did my car gain ? a new oil filter on it !

I am so pissed, so now i thinking just tow it to my mechanic and i am sure they will be able to get it out

Sorry?

We all learn from dumb ass mistakes, trust me, we've all made them.

Now you know to not overtorque bolts :thumb:

Good luck fixin it.

yeah that sucks. heres an idea, dont know how well it will work but it might be worth a shot. get some of those drill bits from sears, i think craftsman is the brand, the bits that are supposed to dig into old stripped and broken screws and bolts. give that a shot it might work. the mechanic will most likely have to drill out the old bolt and retap the threads, then install a new larger bolt in its place tho.

HAhahahHa i go through eazy outs like peanut butter. I cant honestly tell you how many bolts i over tighten on these damn cars. Somthing always gives out either it be my arms or the bolt. Oh well sorry man Im sure a mechanic can get fixed in no time :thumb:

the biggest pain in the ass is that i have to get the damn thing towed cause it has no oil in it !!! Yet another disappointing day of owning a DSM.

Dont' blame the DSM :D

I mean , please DSM gods , can you just let stuff go ok i am begging you :D

I just want a normal car... I just told my parents if i was out of school i would sell this POS and guy a EVO8 right now !! MY mom said well how much can you get for your car ? then buy a used car, i said " I AM NOT GOING TO SELL THIS CAR TO JUST SOME MORON KID ! " she said i thought you wanted to sell it. I said no i want to get it painted !!!

HAHAH I CANT GIVE IT UP !

PLUS , parents dont even know about the Greddy BOV, downpipe, and injectors on their way in the mail !! :p

thats why you gotta use a 1/4 in drive ratchet.... you wont overtighten it with that... hand tight with that is just right...

dont worry though i did the same thing after doing my bullseye housing install... tried to get rid of boost creep and ended up putting the stock housing back on with a broken turbo drain tube bolt in there and 2 exhaust manifold studs working and 2 broken off... good thing though it was just the very head of the bolt that broke off... there was still enough sticking out to lock onto with vice grips and twist that mofo out... got the bullseye housing on now and no more boost creep... then i go to finally turn the boost up (from 10 for like 4 months of creeping to 15) and the head gasket/water pump goes ... i dunno still fixing and the car starts to overheat all the time... well its been sitting for like a month now while ive been waiting to get my parts and pull the head and do the new timing belt job...

trust me it happens to all of us.... little easy fixes always turn into big things

Or how bout you just either A) drill it out and retap it or B) drill it out and use a nut/bolt to hold it. its really not that big of a deal- its not a pressurized fitting.

and now i have a brand new shinny Greddy BOV type-S sitting in front of me and nothing to do with it  ... When that downpipe comes in i am going to

i guess i can use this time to clean the inside. haha

Most days I feel bad that I don't own a DSM, and that I can't make it fast as hell with a few grand...

But when I see thing such as this thread and about 30 others that popped up within the last few days I become happy that my car takes so much abuse and never breaks. :thumb:

If Torque is referring to his Beamer then I would hate to be the owner when it does break Cha ching... :notgood:

DSMs are awesome cars to play with because mine costed less than 30grand and will last just as long as any other car and it looks better than any other car but I get to power mine up to surpass anything, yes anything on the road (road being key word here). Daily driven, street legal 600+ HP cars are not easy to come buy and I'm fairly ignorant on all cars but I'm not sure of too many like that. Especially beamers...but again I don't know know that much!
