so i bought a motor off a guy said it had been rebuilt and stroked.

i got it home, was in the car. pulled the motor.

pulled pan, looked for main caps to be clearances, they wasn't. So i read that some crolwer rods didn't need cleanaced. can anybody tell me what are stamped or cast into the crowler rod caps.

the crank, has been balanced.

the only info i have is the crank is stamped closest to flywheel on counter weight PD then on the next weight over 55.

and the pistons have that grid looking design on them, like a stock piston. but different markings than the factory piston i had laying around.

NOT SURE WHAT YEAR ROD PISTON I HAVE THAT I WAS LOOKING AT COMPARING TO TO THE MOTOR. From parts way back

the numbers i could see on the underside of the skirt is 43234

any help would be appreciated on this.

NO pictures as of yet.

thanks, Justin :dsm:

Did he say if it were a 2.3 or 2.4? Im guessing you are speaking of a 2.3, but I would like to be sure. Pic's are definately needed. Also Crower's are forged steel so nothing is cast into them...they have"CROWER" etched into them, but Im not sure if that would last through the heat cycles, ect...Are they H or I beam rod's?

You wont see any machining if it is a 2.4L. Check the height of the block. If it is a 2.4, it will be a half inch taller than a 2.0 block.

Thats correct, the 2.4L deck hight is 6mm taller than the 2.0. This gives you your added stroke without the nasty rod ratios.

I can't remember, but do 2.4L have the main caps bridged together like on a 2.0?

Can you tell if the inside casting of the block was clearanced for the #3 rod? They will rub the block casting if not clearanced on a 2.3L.

Also, 6 bolt or 7?

What is the marking on the block itself? 63,64, g4cs? Wouldn't that be easier to check as opposed to measuring deck height? 2.4 blocks don't have bridged caps. They have individual ones.

it's a 4g63 block. i wil ltry to get some pictures. and i looked for clearancing on the #3 cylinder, but it's been an few days.

6 bolt

i will try to get some pics t/m and look. thanks for all the input.

i really hate to burden everybody over stuff like this cause people think this sucker got sucked into another it's a stroker motor but he doesn't know jack kinda thing.

any body know anything about the casting stamp pd and 55.

thanks for the help so far, Justin :dsm:

Well if its a stroker its a 2.3. You can check the piston's, and check them against stocker's...if the wrist pin's are the same spot's, then it isnt a strocker...if the pin is further up the piston towards the top its most likely a stroker. Sorry Im not sure about the casting mark's on the crank.

rod ratio is "Rod Ratio = rod length / stroke" I'm guessing that was brain fart? The 2.3 and 2.4 both have the same connecting rod (unless using stroker pistons and long rods in the 2.4), and 100mm stroke. The deck height doesn't have anything to do with it. The only thing it changes is the position of the wrist pin in the piston.

If you don't have the thing disassembled you could take a spark plug out, put a small stick (make sure its clean and plenty long so it won't drop in) in the plug hole against the piston. Make sure the stick stays straight up and down. Turn the motor over by hand until the stick reaches the bottom(BDC), mark it and rotate motor again until reaches TDC mark it. Pull the stick out, measure the difference between the marks. If its 88mm then its stock. 100 MM its a stroker.

you answered my question before I asked. thanks.

I was wondring if you could measure the piston travel.

will see what i get..... ( goes gets metric to us converter )

will update.

anymore info on crank would be helpful also as far as the stampings.

thanks, Justin :dsm:

Mitsu 100mm 6bolt cranks have "64" cast into a side of a counterweight of a #4 journal. Hyundai ones don't have that "I beleive" but I 'll have to double check it at home.
