2G Hx40 oil restrictor size

I’m not sure how much this matters but I just wanna treat this new Holset right so I measured the inner diameter of the oil feed fitting and I wanna know if it’s right . The one end is 5mm inner diameter and the other is 4mm which comes out to just about the size of the inner diameter of a -3an fitting

Most people are running straight -4an from the filter housing unrestricted for holsets, as long as you have a good drain you should be fine.

Agreed. The drain is more important than the supply. You can run either -4an or -3an with no restrictior but make sure you use a large drain.

Unrestricted from the filter housing is recommended as long as two conditions are met:

1) The pressure at the inlet is at or around 75psi peak with a 4AN feed, and
2) The drain is the recommended 12AN or 3/4" I.D. tube.

Any other condition may require the use of a restrictor...unfortunately none of us can tell you what size is needed, except you want the restrictor to only be as small as needed to cut flow enough to meet 75psi at the inlet. Using smaller than needed will substantially shorten the life of the turbo.

Thanks everyone , I’m running the the Morrison fab return line it’s 3/4”. So I’m pretty confident in this setup now

No matter what line or restrictions you put in the feed line, if you don’t have a good drain, your turbo will suffer.

If you have a good drain, you can use no restrictions, but depends on the drain is the restriction you will have to use., in o other words, the amount of oil inters the turbo needs to flow freely out of the drain line. So there is no just pressure set to run the turbo , but to evacuate the oil is entering from the turbo.

I run from the oil filter housing no restrictor.

Same drain as in the picture above.

30 psi everywhere for over 20k miles.

Turbo is still screaming and wheel is tight.

I ran a 10an return with a 4an feed and a .070 restrictor. Worked well for me.
