Im on the market for a nre turbo finally and decided to go with a HX35. Problem ....which is the better one to get, the 7 blade or the 8 blade?

Whats the lowest amount boost you can run with this turbo and not have any troubles?

I plan going with the 8 blade hx because of the stock bottom end. I think that it flows 52lbs a min compared to the 7 blade which i believe flows more like 60lbs a min. Enough for around 600hp+.

All the information you will ever need is in the Holset threads. Here is just one (info is covered on the first page)

The 7 blade flows more than the 8 blade, I see no reason to go with the 7 blade because of your bottom end. Turn the boost down. Besides you will not slap that turbo on and see 52lbs/min instantly. Look at the logs that guys are putting up that have the higher lbs/min with these turbos, they are in the high 20's to low 30's for boost.

0psi:banghead: It's no different than any other turbo upgrade:ohdamn: a quick search could yield about 250 answers to that.

In all seriousness I would say it GREATLY depends on your mods, but around 10-12psi. In my experience the 8blade hx35 didn't even start to wake up until after 26psi.

So your saying I should go with a 8 blade with a stock bottom end? Why not the 7 and just keep the boost down some?

I would go with the 7 blade, you will always know that you have the better one of the two!

The 7blade has a larger compressor wheel. There's TWO sides to a turbo. You can have a huge compressor and never see the potential because the turbine is too small. The 7blade hx40 flows 60lb/min but I havn't seen but ONE log of a bolton hx35 (with that bolton bep hotside) flow 54ish lb/min. The 8blade hx35 cam flow 52lb/min per the map and compressors can be pushed off the map 2-3 lb/min. So the 8blade hx35 can go to 54lb/min with the bolton housing just as easily as the 7blade, IMHO.

It's your call. But in reality, there's no need to have a 60lb/min compressor coupled to a .55 a/r bolton housing with an hx35 turbine wheel which is about the size of a t3 stage 3 turbine wheel. The 8blade compressor spools slightly faster as reported as well.

Ultimately you'll have to give us your goal. You may not need either or you may need more than a bolton hx35 can provide.

I must of missed that he was wanting to do this on a bolt on, in that case go with the 8 blade...

Yep Dave. And the 7blade ends up being so much more expensive since we know the compressor flows quite a bit more. Which is rediculous, because the holset sales probably picked up because dsmers were looking to put bolton hx35s on their car. . .

A balanced turbo is a FAR better turbo. And I'm not talking about balanced rotating assembly :)

Im looking to reach the 400hp mark on the stock bottom end. When I build the bottom end I dont want to have to by another turbo.
