HVAC controls

So I have a 99 Eclipse GS and the HVAC control switch (temp control, fan speed, position) doesn't always light up. It will sometimes but then if I turn any of the knobs or go over a bump it'll go off. I believe it's a ground issue but can anyone tell me where it's grounded to?

Any help would be awesome!

Well I remembered I pulled my dash out to get the HVAC out and didn't want to do it again. The dash doesn't have to be removed to pull out the HVAC, but I think it's easier. Just my opinion. Anyway, since I didn't pull it for pics, I looked up the "how to" that I found after the first time I did all this. http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/articles-exterior-interior/282656-how-light-hvac-leds.html

Thanks for all the help! Ill post pics after I do it all to show you how it turned out. And really quick do you have a rear windshield wiper switch you'd be interested in selling to me? I need one and would prefer not to spend 96 dollars that Mitsubishi charges for them

I got 2 gray ones for the rear wiper. My 2 black ones are for the spyder. Thought I had a black one but I guess not.

Do u know if I can switch the cover for it with the black one I have???

The insides of the switches are different between the 2. If I sent you a gray one, you could put the black switch face on it.

Yeah that's what I was talking about. If I could just swap the switch faces on them? And how much would you want for it?

You can just swap the faces on them. But the tabs can be fragile, so you'll need to do it with care. Send me a PM for price and anything involved with buying one, just so no one say anything about that discussion being in the normal forum.

And I have another question. If I go with led strips for the gauge cluster do I still havta sand the tint off? Or will it go through fine

And how would I change the ac switch to being the blue too??

If you want the blue light to shone through properly, you gotta sand the gauge faces. With the HVAC, you'll probably have to as well.

Gotcha then ill just do that then and just havta deal with the needles :/. How would I change the color for the ac switch???

I used the T1.5 bulbs in my gauge cluster (since I was only doing red), and the NEO3,4,&5 for the buttons and switches. Although there was a couple places I had to solder the bulbs in because the original bulbs were soldered to the circuit board.

What bulbs do I have to replace in the gauge??

The circled bulbs are for the gauges. The year and model doesn't make a difference for the bulb locations.

Do I havta put bulbs in there??? Or is the strip gonna light it up good enough?

Well, you could run the wires form the strips through the holes to a separate power source, or you can gut out the blub holders and solder the LED strip wires to the contacts inside the holders and power them from their factory source.

Could I wire the led strips to the harness for the gauges????? Or maybe wire them in with the hvac lights????

You could wire them to the harness, but that would involve hacking into the plugs that plug into the back of the cluster. I think you'd be better off wiring into another source, such as HVAC like you suggested. Or rather than string wires that far, splice them into one of the button switches on the left side of the cluster.
