HVAC controls

So I have a 99 Eclipse GS and the HVAC control switch (temp control, fan speed, position) doesn't always light up. It will sometimes but then if I turn any of the knobs or go over a bump it'll go off. I believe it's a ground issue but can anyone tell me where it's grounded to?

Any help would be awesome!

Yeah try using acetone and cotton balls. It's really easy and bearly takes any effort and dosent leave marks from sanding. Just be careful not to get it on the gauge faces. It'll take off the paint from that too. I had to repaint part of mine becuz of that.

Lol... I wet sanded mine with a fine grit sand paper so had no scratches or gouges.

Yeah I'm not good at sanding things . What I'm thinking about doing is doing the strips and then putting bulbs in too. Depends how it looks with just strips

this is what my gauges look like right now after taking the backing off of em. Yeah I messed up when putting the engine temp needle back on but I have take it off anyway

Been out in the garage tinkering. Built the LED socket adapter I floated earlier. I pulled out the pin contacts and soldered a wire on each. Works pretty good. This looks like the way I'm gonna wire up the white cluster for my friend in Miami. It's powered directly from the printed circuit board. I know the wires are swapped in the last pic, but I put the socket into the hole backwards and didn't want to pull the cluster back out. Gonna fill the void in the socket with high temp RTV to prevent any possibility of contact between the wires.

Looks really good!! Yeah I'm excited to finish mine. I had some of them with wires in them as had them lit up to see how it looks at it was looking pretty good. I'm hoping it turns out to looks at good as I'm hoping it will. How did you run your LED strips on the inside????

I haven't done the strips inside yet. I have to buy them still.

Oh I thought you have. There not easy to fit into the inside. There's not so much room between the gauges and where the LEDs need to be. Ill take pictures for you with where I put them so it can help you when you do yours

Yeah I just found out I can cut the pieces off the actual gauge part itself that you don't need anymore ### they were just used to transfer light from the bulbs. So that'll make it ALOT easier now. I wish I had my lights with me and I garage I could work in ### I would wire it all up now

Definitely nice to have a garage out of the rain and all. I've mapped out how I want to run the strips in my head. Will be cutting those extensions off the clear acrylic as well. I may end of scuffing the back of the acrylic a little in order to disperse the light a little more. Kinda like making it look similar to frosted glass.

Yeah I didn't know I could cut those pieces off.....soooooo that kinda made it really hard to get the strips in place but this will be alot easier now . And yeah I live in an apartment so I have to do all my auto work at a buddy's house and I just found out I left all my light strips at his house :/

You can also pull the screws out on the back (circled in red) that'll allow you to pull each gauge out without messing up the calibration. This will make cutting the acrylic easier as well as installing the strips.

Yeah I had them all out earlier and I just didn't know I could cut those pieces so it was a massive pain to get that all I'm. I really wish that needle didnt break..... I would just finish them tomorrow

So I just had a thought. Would a gsx or gst gauge cluster work in my car?? I know that the boost gauge would do anything but would it read oil pressure???

I've thought about that before, but don't have a N/T to testing out on. My friend in Miami has one of each so I could probably ask him to try it. I'm not sure if it would though. The gauges I don't think would be accurate even if they did work. I think the 420 cluster red lines sooner than the 4g63 one.

I was just wondering about the oil pressure. ### I kinda wanna put the turbod gauge cluster in mine ### I like the way it looks better

Well the dash harness between the turbo and N/T models are different, so the wiring wouldn't be there for the oil pressure gauge. On the same note though, the oil gauge on the turbo model isn't very accurate anyway. You'd be much better off getting an aftermarket gauge and hook it in.

damn :/ i was hoping it would work. i did a search on here and all though it didnt give me the exact answer i found out that some people have the turbo gauges in the non turbo cars so i think if i can find them i might just take the chance and try it and if it does awesome if not i have one part for my turbo swap anyway ill have the money the swtich and needle tonight

It's worth a shot. Just be prepared to grab the dash harness if it doesn't work out with the normal one. Cool, send me a PM once you're ready and I'll shoot you my info.

Will do. Either way I was look at my gauge faces and I got some acetone on them so it messed with them a bit so I need a few new faces but ill pick those up for a junk yard I suppose
