huge increase in oil pressure after external oil cooler install

After installing a 90 oil filter housing, factory lines, and factory cooler, my oil pressure has skyrocketed. On a cold start I get about 75 psi at idle and over 100 psi by 2500 rpm. When the car warms up I have 25 psi at idle, 50 psi at 2500 rpm and 100+ by 3000 rpm. This is on a completely stock bottom end with 138k on it, balance shafts and all. Pressure is measured with an autometer electric gauge feeding from the stock sender location. Does anyone have any ideas of why I have had such an increase in presure?

There is a oil bypass to lower the pressure like a regulator. I could be sticking in the filter housing or plugged with something. Did you use RTV when you installed it?

I used no rtv. I got the housing used and disassembled it to clean it and re-assembled it exactly as I took it apart. It is possible I overtightened the cap holding it in?

That screw just holds the spring in place...it doesn't change whether the piston will open or not.

I got my '90 housing today, and before porting the relief on it, I noticed that the piston was sticking. After porting, I cleaned the piston and it's cylinder area really well, and worked the piston back and forth until it loosened up.

That piston needs to move freely. My bet is that yours is sticking.

I didn't get a chance to pull it apart before I stored my car. I wont be back for at least 3 months so I won't be able to find out for awhile. It will be real easy to pull the cap off to check. Please let me know if you do this, I really want to know if it will solve my problem.
