Hows this for a 1g Ebay Intercooler?

Yea, i cut the bumper down a bit. didn't need to, wanted to.

That's right. Shower me with admiration. :thumb:

I know i know, get the fascia on and run the pipes. All in due time.

Looks good. What is the inlet/outlet size on the intercooler? I got a godspeed one that had 3" inlet/outlet. I got rid of that one.

But, thats a nice core.

3"

Running a B16g for now while i sort the car out and get everything together, then i'll pull the motor and put a 35r in.

That same intercooler came in my '93 TSi AWD when I bought it.

I took one look at the 3 miles of piping required to make it work, and scrapped EVERYTHING in favor of a Punishment Racing short-route FMIC kit. The fit and quality of the Punishment setup is second to none.

its no more than any other large side - side front mount, many people run them and have good luck with them.

i don't really know what you're trying to say

The Punishment kit came with 3 short pieces of piping:
-One to go from the turbo outlet to the driver's side of the car, then makes a turn toward the front just before the alternator.
-One to go from the cold side of the intercooler upward toward the throttle body
-One leading to the throttle body with the 1G BOV flange welded to it.

The core's 2.5" rear-facing outlets allow for much less piping when compared to the long-route eBay setup's crossflow FMIC.

The way the piping is run on the eBay setup, you have one pipe that passes back in front of the intercooler core and goes back to the passenger's side of the car where it re-enters the fenderwell area before going into the engine bay. What's up with that?

My point is that if the eBay crap was worth buying, more fast guys would be using it, right? They're not.

I'm guessing he just bought the core, and is going to do his own piping, so I doubt he will route his back in front of the intercooler like the SSAC setup.

And before you knock the "ebay crap", you might want to search a little bit and see if you can find where the Punishment Racing kit came from. It might suprise you ;)

You're right....my other car has a Buschur race setup and the Punishment kit just looks like a knockoff version of the Buschur kit.

It doesn't matter to me....I installed it on a car that will never see over 20psi and it works great. The race car gets the good stuff, the street car gets the cheap stuff.

You are correct the punishment racing FMIC was born from an ebay IC, but its still far above the quality of normal ebay shit.

One thing i don't like about Buschar's post is he is making 640 AWHP. At that point there isn't a doubt in my mine his core is better, but for the average DSM'er where 300 - 400 hp is our goals ebay stuff will do just fine.

I run the punishment racing kit and have made 350 awhp no problem, but i know it has it will have its limitations.

Right, the only point that I am trying to make is that now there are actually a lot of quality items that can be had on ebay for cheap, the main one being intercoolers. And actually, I recently bought the core you use (and Punishment Racing uses obviously) for $150 shipped new. So there are a lot of good finds to be had on ebay, just do a little research before you buy.

where did you get the core for 150 bucks?

They do not have it online anymore, but from Just-Intercoolers. THey had an auction in their store with a best offer option, and I submitted one and got it for $150 shipped. Otherwise, it is something like $170 shipped.

You can't believe what buschur tells you because he stands to make a profit from giving this info. Ofcourse he is going to say his intercooler worked better, he sells it.

To a point i agree, but we are talking about Buschar here. Its a well respected DSM shop, i'd trust his results. Although you never really know.

I'm not saying your right or wrong......just ya.......well ya know

Well then I guess this is just a pointless thread if all intercoolers are created equally, right?

Great looking intercooler and great buy but your radiator is going to have a hard time breathing. Over heating looks like its definitly going to be an issue.

He can just run 30/70 mix with some watter wetter to keep it cool. I had the same core on my 1Gb and towards the end before it was sold i was hitting 25psi with no problems and the pipe after the intercooler was ICE, i mean ICE cold. It was building up condensation.

you realize the intercooler isn't solid steel? air flows through it? since it is entirely infront of the radiator opening, air will flow through the intercooler and then the radiator. a lot of cars have condensers infront of the radiator

one more for the ignore list

Im enjoying my ssac 1g kit from ebay. Welds looks great, came with 4 layer silicone couplers, bunch of stainless t-bolt clamps. Only thing is the long ass piping it has and no beads on the ends, but nothing some jb weld couldnt fix. The vendors have some great products though, they bolt right on and with minimal hacking unlike the ebay kits. But when it comes to spending $200 or $600+, guess what I'm gonna go for.
