So i found a head in the back seat of a 91 lazer that i was given and i was curious how to tell the difference between a turbo head and a non turbo head? If its a non turbo head can i still use it on a turbo block? Its a completely bare head so theres no lifters cams valves springs etc.

there should be some numbers on the head which would be casted on one side or the other of the head. look up those numbers and google it or post it in here and someone might know. as for using the head im pretty sure you cant put a n/a head on a turbo block because alot of things would be different.

The heads are the same , turbo and non turbo.

The only diffrerance is an oil galley plug. On 1g the turbo oil feed is from the head. if it is a NT head this will be plugged.

As said above, if you do not have the cam tower caps, the head is scrap.

I agree to disagree.

Yes the Heads are the same minus the plug, but if its missing the cam caps its not a total loss. You can use caps from an other head and have your local machine shop line bore them. The cost should be around $65.00

I dont know exact chamber size but your thinking of the 1.8 Hyundai Head compared to the 2.0 head. The 2.0 N/T and T are the same chamber size.

$65 .. if the cam towers can be aligned honed for this price you are right, the head is still saveable.

Most places I know of charge $75-$100 per side, at this price range, the head is scrap

when i see an emptied head i always assume the head was gutted for a reason usually warped or for a parts head for a rebuild involving bent valves.

the price to reload a head that is missing cam caps isnt worth it when you can get a loaded head for 100-200 bucks

thanks for the replies, I havent really looked at it to much i know the cams and gears and valves and springs wernt there but beyond that i dont know, ill have to take a look at it this week and see what is all left on it. thanks again
