how do u tell if my balance shafts were removed. i am doing a tbelt job and there is no balance shaft belt how do i tell if the belt was just removed or if it had an elimination kit. im new to working on dsms first time doing a tbelt job on one of these cars so i dont know how to tell i just know the belt isnt there.

p.s. pics would be awesome.:thumb:

when you are looking at your oil pump, a core plug should have been installed where the balance shaft gear goes.

Only way to know 100% is to remove the oil pan and check if a stub shaft is installed. Unless, of course, the plug is there as the above picture shows. The reason I say that is because you can leave the front shaft installed to block the passages and just install the stub shaft and leave the belt off. When you do it that way, it just looks like the belt is missing. That's the way I did it to mine. Perfectly normal (and cheaper) way to to the elimination.

I think what he means is the oil pump pulley is on there...if this is the case, do NOT take that pulley off! If there is a plug in the hole where the yellow on is on the above pic, chances are you are good to roll!

i know where the oil pump pully is its not that. heres a pic i used from sandman817. it shows what im talking about.
