Ok, I'm an idiot and I took off the balance belt tensioner without noting on the orientation of the tensioner.

I have a 93 tsi awd with a 7 bolt. I had the tensioner mounted with the lip side down, but it was shredding the belt and making noise... I mounted it the other way and it seems to work better, but I can't find any reference saying this is the way it SHOULD go.

I seriously just want to stop taking my timing belt apart. I've been doing it like every other day. Annoying.

Really, I just want someone who knows 1993 7 bolt engines. I think i've either got it right now, or I just have the wrong tensioner.

Thanks!

I had already looked at that - quite extensively actually. It doesn't deal with this specific car much - being a 7 bolt and a 93, and doesn't answer my question.
