I have a 92 eclipse, and I am doing the timing belt job.

my balance belt tensioner was bolted with a completely loose bolt. I feel lucky that I was doing the timing belt after discovering such a thing.

well, I have a question. perhaps my tensioner was not properly installed. should the lip be outward out inward?
the lip outward prevent the belt from slipping out, however, the lip inward makes the shaft be in a better contact with the block ( the shaft is coming out from the pulley on the lip side).

I would like to know also if a crankshaft retainer should present any sign of oil. after removing the crankshaft pinion, I have seen the retainer to shiny, and the bottom of belt case is a bit oily.
ok or to be replaced?

Definitely get rid of the balance shafts. Other members have told us horror stories of them coming apart and destroying motors and we will forever be in favor of such a simple operation :thumb:

Thank you.

I am having terrible vibrations all over the car from the engine. The car was attended by a Nissan mechanic who had never seen before a car such this one.
Luckily, I am finding a lot of horror movies before happening.

IE: the balance belt tensioner was in reverse, and it's bolt was totatlly loose.

I am sorry for not listening to your wise advices, but for the moment I just want to get it as clean as possible.

Thank you.

Nobody said nothing of the oily crankshaft seal?

If your seal is indeed showing oil, best to replace it before more oil leaks past it. Otherwise, you might have to replace the crank due to the bad seal can actually cut a minute groove on the shaft and no new seal will prevent any leakage.
