how to make wastegate off manifold?

does anyone have any tips or a how-to on how to make a manifold-mounted wastegate? like what you have to do or how-to avoid any headaches?

i don't understand your question. Do you mean modifying a stock manifold to fit an external wastegate?

You know SBR makes a really nice casted manifold with a wastegate flange built in.

yea, I have a evo3 mani, I was wondering what was involved in making it support a external wastegate

You can either have a flange machined onto the manifold.
Or have a flange welded onto the manifold.

Both are complicated processes, and require alot of skill and know how if you want to do it yourself.

If you are dead set on a wastegate off the manifold then uberfast was right, however punishment racing makes recuirculated external wastegate o2 housings for a decent price. and you won't have to drill your manifold which by the way might lead to cracking.

and mounting the wastegate on the 02 housing is a great(somesay better) alternative to the mani mount type. http://www.punishment-racing.com/biography.html

having a flange welded onto the manifold is not easy. for mine i drilled a hole where i wanted to weld to the manifold. first i welded a pipe to the flange. the pipe was about 1" long and i had to cut the other end to match the contour of the manifold. then i welded that to the manifold using a tig welder with a nickel tig rod. its tricky trying to match the temps with the different metals but it can be done. i didnt do anything support related. its been on for about 4 months now and i havent had any cracks or leaks and the welds still look great. when its all said and done its well worth the work. just make sure you take your time and the result will be worth it.
