I am getting ready to install my new external gate & turbo... BUT I just wanted to know what do I have to do special to weld the steel WG Flange onto my Cast Manifold.. And no I am not putting it off #1 runner either :thumb: I have heard you have to heat the cast really hot before you weld or else the weld won't hold..

I had a guy in town weld mine up for me and he said he had to use a nickel rod to get it to hold. Worked like a champ!

Well personally I can weld it for you, but I use Stainless Rods with an arc. I welded a lot of cast manifolds and cracked turbos with Stainless rods and it holds well.. but you gotta hammer the shit out of it to make sure it doesn't split open again. It's kinda a tricky thing to do. If you want I can help you send me a PM sometime.

Okay I know this is an old old thread but this is exactly what I was planning to do, weld a wastegate flange to my 2g mani until I can buy a better one. I read in a couple of different threads that the 2g manifold is cast steel.

. . . The 2G manifold is cast steel . . .

The 2G manifold is cast steel. It can easily be braised to. Take it in have it welded, shouldnt cost more then 10-15$.

I always thought it was cast iron so I was just wondering if someone can varify 100% that it is cast steel so I know exactly what kind of electrode I'm going to use.

When i welded a 38mm flange to the stock 2g manifold it got tig welded wit nickle rod. It cracked over time and vibration, and i had my buddy mig it around. It hasnt cracked in 6 years, and is still going.

Unfortunately all I have is an arc welder and no money to pay someone to weld it for me. I suppose I could use a nickel rod to butter the area and weld the flange to the nickel. If I peen the hell out of the weld maybe it'll hold until I can get a hafe or something with provisions for a WG.
