How to get the 5 screws off the FIAV?!

Mine are right friggin tight. I like to think that I'm a strong guy but I can't get 'em to budge and on the first one I tried, the head of the phillips broke off inside the rivet..?

also, I managed to snap both gaskets when taking the TB off :X

Get an impact screwdriver, it's the only thing I found that works really well. I think it's $20-$30 at sears, put on the phillips bit and make sure it's set to loosen and hit it with a hammer.
Return the tool when your done if you want.

I ended up using needle nose vise grips. Then replaced them with allen head bolts.

I don't think anyone in Canada has heard of an impact screwdriver. The closest thing I've found is an impact gun, but those are like $120+, good idea though. It's looking like needlenose vice grips.

What the hell are your talking about I've been using an impact screwdriver for at least 2 or 3 years in my garage... I also have friends who have them, they are readily available everywhere.

Impact driver with a good bit or Vise-Grips, as stated above. Any of these phillips screws that I remove are promptly replaced with hex-head metric bolts.


Definitely buy yourself an impact driver regardless- they're a must-have in your toolbox.

Ever changed braked on a honda civic with the screws in the rotors??? Impact screw driver is a life saver.

You can get one for $6 at Harbor Freight. The one that I purchased worked great for a while but is broken now so only get it from there if you only need to use it a few times.

I got 1 screw out using a screw driver and a whole lot of wasted energy before I broke out the Vise Grips. Worked like a charm. I replaced the screws with stainless steel button head cap screws and a little blue loctite.

Just a little progress update.. I managed to get 4 of them off with the impact driver, but the one in the middle got completely stripped and I had to bust out the needle nose vice grips. Thanks for the tip.
