If you don't see a stud still inside, it's possible that either

1. The stud you bought has wrong thread sizes.

2. The original threads were damage.

The size of the stud should be m10 w/1.25 thread size. If #2 is the issue, try repair the damage by running a m10/125 tab through it. Good luck.

i know this is off topic but i couldnt find anyother people that would have a clue about exhaust studs but what do you torque them down to? I couldnt find it in my manual. Thanks.

Chris

I thought I'd ask this here instead of starting a new thread, since were talkin about studs. I will be taking off my exhaust mani to port it and was thinking about replacing the studs with one of the SS kits. I see you can get copper or SS washers/nuts. I was just wondering what the benefits of each would be and what would be recommended? Is the copper easier to remove?

I dont know nothing about the sizes of the stud. I took a nut from my current stud and put it in the new ones and it screw in perfectly? Im just in doubt

That means it's the right size. How was the the stud removed? Like I have mentioned on my last post that the thread inside the head may have been damaged during the extraction of the broken stud, run a tab through it and see of you can clean it up.

i have not even started, changing studs is a hardcore mission you have to take out the exhaust manifold, maybe the turbo. I dont think is that easy.

Pretty easy IMO on a 2G. On a 1G you may have to remove the power steering pump (I got around it). I always remove the stud on the turbo and replace it with a bolt so in the future you never have to mess with the turbo to get the exhaust manifold off. I find if you heat up the head around the studs with a torch (or even a lighter if you don't have a torch) the studs come out realatively easy.
