So i learned my car has Koni red's on them, and I want to adjust them so my car is higher up and not bottoming out everywhere. I thought all that was needed was that crescent wrench thing, but I can't get my hands on one, so I heard you could use a plumbers wrench (I apologize for not knowing tool names). I can't seem to get it to spin, do i need a spring compressor?

If when fully unloaded the spring is still under compression you're kind of screwed unless you're Superman. That spring looks awfully long which made me want to mention this.

You did loosen the allen-head locking bolt right there in the picture in the gold collar, right? Collar won't move without that loosened.

Lastly, if your spring isn't compressed on full extension and you have loosened the locking bolt then I'm not sure what you'll do. In the past on old grimy/gritty coilover covers like that I had to pull the entire shock out so I could get a really good grip on things and break things loose with my bare hands.

Looks like ground control coilovers. As was already mentioned, you need to loosen the bolt on the collar first to get it to spin. If you're trying to raise the car, you'll need a spanner wrench to turn the collar.

Well, I ccant losen that Allan wrench socket. I tried botg4 and 5/32 I think it was, and the thing was too damn tight.

Sorry for the bad spelling, always on my phone. Just gave the coil and the Allen socket a bunch of love with liquid wrench since I don't have PB blaster, will try it again shortly. And get back. Will I need the spanner wrench or should I justice be able to turn it to raise it?

It's an aluminum collar and a steel bolt. I dunno if pb blaster penetrant will work on that type of corrosion, will it? I've always just had to put some strength into to get the damned thing loose.

Well I stripped my 4mm Allen wrench too much to be able to viably use it, so I need to pick up a new one and try it again. 5/32 too small.

With aluminum I find if you use a small propane torch and gentle heat the bottom of the bolt, im not talking red hot, just hot enough. Then put the torch down, and dose the top of the bolt with pb blaster, pb blaster goes to the heat and gets lubricant to the threads. Dont diss this method until you try it. WARNING DO NOT SPRAY PB BLASTER WHILE TORCH IS LIT, ITS FLAMMABLE

My friends dad tought me that trick years ago and have used it ever since

Ressurecting this because I'm finally planning on adjusting the coilovers. I learned spanner wrenches are not required for ground controls. All I need to do is take the bolt out and twist it up. What I have in question is that I may need to drill some of the bolts out, and I have contacted ground control for the dimensions. But what they said is that I may not be able to take the bolt out if it is seized. Also, as you can see in the picture it's kind of rusted. If I try to adjust them kind in possibly destroy the whole sleeve and collar since its so old? Thanks for reading again!

steps you need to take. use castrol super clean or a really good cleaner. scrub with plastic brush to get dirt off of threads. wash off, and use PB Blaster. let it soak for a day or so and spray it again. use the proper Alen to remove keeper. then thread it down or up whatever will move, clean threads more and then move the other way back and forth. cleaning and reaplying PB blaster. works every time when im rebuilding Coilovers.

Have you ever had to drill out a bolt? And looking into the back wheels, I have no coilovers, just the koni struts.vI don't really get it, its like someone took off the back ones and threw on lowering springs.

the only one i had to drill out was one that i stripped out because i didn't let the PB blaster work. another thing you can do after spraying the PB is take a punch and tap the center of the alen screw. that helps the stuff work into the threads.
