2G How should I start to repair?

I just bought a '97 Spyder GST knowing that the engine didn't run. We towed it home and bought a battery to see if she ran and she did! Lucky us (I think) after a year of not running too. There was a loud knocking so we shut it off right away. The previous thinks he had the turbo turned up to high and detonated it.

This is my first time even dealing with an engine, my dad has more experience but I'm just looking for guidance! We're pulling the engine out in a week

Check timing that your timing marks all line up and compression test. Pull off intake of turbo and check for shaft play. Drain oil and check for metal chunks.
