1st gen bov

Just got the turbo on and I was wondering how much boost is safe to run.

Even then it might be too much.

My buddies talon is knocking on the high end at 14 lbs.

Do a pump rewire anyways.

you upgraded the turbo to early. You dont have any fuel mods or any monitoring mods (no boost gauge, EGT, pocketlogger nothing). You have no boost guage for all you know you can be spiking to 20psi and creep just as high. That was a careless mistake on your half hopefully nothing will happen to you engine :thumbdown

YOU also don't know his situation. For all we know, he coulda bought the car with a blown turbo and he had a hook up on a 16g turbo so he got that instead of another stocker. I do agree he needs a freakin boost gauge though.

Oops guys, sorry about that.

I do have an Autometer Boost Guage and Air/Fuel Guage. I also have a home made manual boost controller.

i was in the same boat. My 14B took a crap on me and my first mod to the car after gauges was a 16G turbo. I am only running 13.5 PSI and i was getting 44 counts of knock at 5.5k rpm. So i in stalled a super afc and after riching up the heck out of the top end i got rid of the knock. from 5.5k to red line i am running 16% rich but i get like 4 counts of knock every now and then but i can't run more hten 13.5 PSI or i will start to knock and if turn it up more i would get fuel cut.

Azrael, have you done a fuel pump rewire?

That should hel you out a bit when your voltage goes low on the high end.

Im doing that to my 16g powered car soon. Hopefully i can run about 14 lbs no problems.

i know u guys have probably herd this a million times but i coukldnt find it in the search i did. when rewiring my fuel pump, would it be any different being a 1990 FWD? i did it both ways the faq said and it didnt work. i could hear the relay kick on, but the car wouldnt start. i tried almost any and every combonation a human being could try and it still didnt work. i have a 190 and my egts are still to high and i definately need to get this done. if anyone has done it to a 90 FWD could u please tell me where the wires go to on the prongs for the relay. PLEEEASE!

Followed the VFAQ and it still doesnt work?

No idea what to tell you. It doesnt have anything to do with the fact you have a 90 model, does it?

Azrael, why did your fuel pump die on you man? thats kinda scary.

I don't know i think it was just a bad pump. Being the smart person i am when i bought the pump i waited about 3 or 4 months to install it. My car was down and in the shop. When i put it in it just stoped working after like 40 min to an hour and wouldn't work. I checked the relays and all then put the old one in and it worked fine.

Well I guess it wasm but take warning to there post. You are in the same boat as them. It looks like you need to stay at 13psi or less till you have a way of upgrading your fuel or logging it to see what you are doing.

Personally, I would do both things next. Hell with anything else. Get a pump, then injectors, then a logger. You will need them anyway.
