How much for a clutch replacement?

Clutch is going out on my 92 TSi. I do most everythign myself, but this one seems a little above my skills.

How much can I expect to pay a mechanic to replace it?

a lot more than attempting to do it yourself...there isnt terribly to much that could go wrong. Get a few friends over and spend a good night going at it. It really isn't to hard.

its really not to bad just need a jack. but if you want to get it done by a shop expect to pay at least 300 dollars in labor which isnt all that bad but that is the LEAST and that is without the parts! if you want aftermarket check out competition clutch not to expensive and im very happy with their clutch, its not to bad on your foot too!

you'll end up paying 300-600 in labor. its not that hard to do really

It calls for 6.7 hours to R and R the flywheel, which is what you are really doing because it will need to be either machined or replaced. So multiply that number by the price of labor at your local shop and you will have a good estimate. One bad thing about buying your own clutch would be if something goes wrong with it, it won't be warrantied by the shop that replaces it for you. Shops do charge more for the part than what you could pay for it, but that price comes with a warranty.

OK, you all may have talked me into it. I don't drive the car everyday and could chip away at it if I couldn't do it all in a weekend. Any special advice (different from VFAQ)?

A reputable DSM shop (Showdown) in my area quoted me 300 for labor.

Its not that hard just do one step at a time i bought a manual and did my first one with no problems. now im my own dsm mechanic i had to no money w hen i finished college, got some tools and got to wrechning.
