So i'll be getting my BC 272's, and my BC Springs/Retainers as well as all my other new stuff here soon to put my car back together.

I'm just curious as to how high I can safely rev with this head setup.
Running a oem-spec rebuilt 6bolt with around 10k. Head currently is stock, have a blown headgasket so building the head as best as I can with my tight budget while I have it off.

Currently I shift at 7k rpms.

I'm wondering if I should be shifting now at around 7500 with the new head hardware? Or should I just drive it like its stock still?

Thanks for any advice!

I know there's a guy on these forums that pushes them to around 9500RPM.. I have BC springs and the TI retainers and I don't plan to push them any more than 8000-8500. They're spring rate is only a little higher than the stock springs. I know BogusSVO on here uses these springs as stock replacements in a lot of heads he puts together for people. The springs themselves are advertised to be able to hold upwards of 9000-9500RPM but I'm too scared to push them that high. You also want to make sure you have a setup capable of making power at that high of an RPM...

I take my completely stock motors to 7500 all the time. Others will go to 8000 on stock valvetrain. You'd be safe to go to 8000.

I rev these springs and retainers on bc280's up to 9200. Make sure your installed height is correct and you shouldn't have any issues.

Did you get a good deal on these? Im confused on why people are still buying bc's? Evo 8 springs and retainers are better than those and you can rev just as high.. with oem reliablity. Have you been informed of all the horror stories of bc springs? Might want to look it up if not.

Yes I got a good deal.

Ideally I'd like to go with something like FP cams, Kiggly or Ferra springs.

However my headgasket blew and I'm at my limit right now basically for power on my stock head and I wanted to go ahead and do something to it.

I'm picking up the cams/springs/retainers for only $400 from someone on the forum that are still basically new. Couldn't pass it up.

How many of the people with failures can tell you the installed height of their setup?

Have you used BC springs?

Can you post links to said horror stories?

My best bud revs his BC1100 springs with Ti retainers to 8500-8700
they have been in the head for appox 15k miles and no issues.

^^ Thank you for posting that! I would never run anything BC. Nothing they make is worth the money of just purchasing oem quailty. If BC made a 16g it would be equal to a ebay 16g hunk of junk.

I am surprised we don't hear more horror stories about these springs. They truly are junk.

Doesn't the weight of your rotating assembly also have to do with how high you can safety rev? I mean I know you can have the worlds most built head but on stock pistons/rods or 2g/1g combo even then it's pretty heavy.

Doesn't really pertain to this thread but just FYI:

In general with DSMs, the limit on RPMs based on hardware reliability, in order, goes something like: valvetrain - transmission - rotating assembly.

OP - I would take your suggested setup to 8k daily driving and 8.5k in a "competition situation." (But then again I'm a bit conservative). With 272's you still have lots of good power past 7k.

I may just make 8k my competitive area, just because I'm even more conservative LOL.

I really shouldn't be since its not like my car is my daily but when its running good it may as well be as I like driving it so much it becomes my daily even though I've got my 230k mile beater civic to thrash LOL.

This is all good feedback aside from crap I've already heard about BC.

The fact is imo about BC, it's widely used and of course you'll hear about a few things breaking more than you hear about all the people that use it with success. Yes the other things out there are better.
But for people on a budget BC is a great alternative imo.

Using it in my head will allow me to take my car at least farther than I could go on my stock head which is all I want for now until I can afford bigger/better.

I just picked these up because $400 for springs/retainers/272 cams BC or not is a great deal.

you will be fine with the BC springs, AS LONG AS THE MACHINIST sets the springs up properly.

Ive had a set of bc springs and ti retai ers in my 1g with 272s since 2008 put 60000 miles on them revving to 8250 with zero issues.
