So I'm rebuilding my head and am going to push around 500 HP.
I am looking to get BC 1100 and SS valves with bronze valve guides. Probably 272 cams
If I don't need the titanium retainers then I will be more then happy to spend that money at the machine shop.
Will I need to upgrade the retainers or can I use the stock ones?

You could get away with using the factory retainers, but since your already into the head why not spend the extra to get the titanium retainers?

Lighter weight takes a ton of weight off your valvetrain. Lighter valvetrain revs faster, and their stronger.

So they arent necessary... but might as well when its apart! easier now than later

Yes the stock retainers will fit the BC1100 springs, I forget how many times I have installed that combo. I know of this combo going 8000-8500 RPM

For your Goals of 500, the extra $150-$200 for the Ti retainers would be money well spent.

Now what set of 272 cams are you thinking of?
