How hard can the fuel system be?

Ok I really want to turbo my 420a and from what i here it's not to hard. I like the look of the star kit better than the hrc. I was on a web site with the install instructions for both the star and hrc kit and the install of the turbo kit seemed easy but a little time consuming. However, the fuel system seems to be a pain in the a##. Or so I'm told.

Please wise 420a tuners tell me if i am right before i waste my hard earned army pay.

There are 2 fuel systems for the eclipse 95-96 and 97-99. (mine is 97)

A turbo kit comes with a fuel pump and a fpr. The fuel pump is under my back seat and should be very easy to install. On the 97 eclipse the fpr is also under the seat so it should be easy to install. This is what i got from the instructions and it does not seem hard. Is this right? Can someone tell me how they did thier fuel system?

ok i found out the fpr or fmu is under the hood. If i was to make a custom kit what would the fule system include?

fuel pump and fmu right?

what kind of fmu or fpr?

my hahn kit came with a walbro 255 pump and cartech fpr

i have done quite a lot of research on fpr's lately and from what i have seen aeromotive has the best fpr out there (at least it is the most popular anyway)

plus the new hahn portfueler supposedly comes with the aermotive also

I am kinda leaning to a piece togeather turbo kit now. I think i can save a little money and have more fun buying parts. I looked at some fmu and they have all kinds of differnt ratios (1:1, 5:1. ect..) what is that all about?

that is the ratio that the fpr raises fuel pressure
1:1 means that for every psi of positive pressure over idle the fuel pressure is raised 1 psi
for example my pressure gauge reads 40 at idle
my boost/vacuum gauge reads 24 at idle
at 6 lbs of boost my pressure gauge usually reads between 60-70psi of fuel pressure

It is not hard to install a turbo kit. I did mine with a buddy in 3 hours. We're fast though...

Fuel pump is easy, and FMU is easier. I don't like how my FMU is mounted under the car in the back, so I'm running fuel send and return lines to the front, so I can mount it under the hood. I'm still trying to figure out the math for my fuel system, so I can't help much there. I just going to run 9psi until I get a new fuel system. If your just running low boost, your FMU that comes with your kit (or the one you buy) will do until you start getting into higher boost.

I have the Vortech 12:1 FMU with stock FPR and stock injectors, also I have a warblo 255

man i love this forum you guys rock. this does not go along with the fuel system but has anyone seen the oil adaptor that hooks up above the oil filter? It is supposed to be for the send and return line for the turbo. (no hole in oil pan) Does this really work?

I know what your talking about. They're for oil cooler send and return lines. Drilling the oil pan isn't hard... 12 or so 10mm bolts and the pan is off. Just make sure not to install the oil tab where it blocks a bolt... I've seen people do that.

mine works great
just make sure that the threads are sealed
when i put mine in i used a lot of brass T's to install the oil feed to the turbo out of the stock oil pressure sender hole , i then hooked in an aftermarket pressure sender and temp sender and then the stock pressure sender to the same spot
and the first couple of times i got leaks
until i finally jb welded the brass hardware together
no more leaks

the oil thing i am talking about is under the mani. it conects between the oil filter and the motor.

can you post a pic of the part you are talking about
because my kit has a stainless steel line coming out of a brass tee screwed into the oil pressure sender hole going to the top of the turbine
then a rubber hose coming from the turbine to the hole in the oil pan
there was nothing going to or from the oil filter

i think that you are talking about the silver circle object that has the brass barbs coming out of it under the exhaust manifold you have pictured

that i have no idea what it is
my hrc stage 2 doesnt have anything close to looking like that

maybe oil cooler? or block in between the engine and oil filter that acts as a place to install an oil pressure sending unit

sorry on this one because i have never seen that before

that is neat
wish mine had that
i am stuck with the hole in the oil pan in which i am not sure if it getting loose or not

Think about how a oil filter works. It drops into the middle, and filters to the sides. Constantly pressureized. So no matter which side you hook the oil adapter too, its going to be pressurized. That is why they are meant for oil coolers. Coolers are constantly flowing one direction and pressurized. You could use it, but I don't know if it is good for the turbo. its not supposed to have a pressurized return(I don't think) Its not hard to do the oil line. The send in the back of the block is threaded, you just need to go to the hardware store with your existing oil pressure switch sensor, and get a fitting for it. Then send an oil line to the turbo, then out of the turbo, you feed the return line into the oil pan. It took me about 15 mins to get the oil pan off, tapped, and back on.
