How do you separate the bell housing from the transmission?

I have a 98 eclipse gs-t, i just pulled out my tranny and i can't open it up. I got all of the bolts off connecting the bell housing from the tranny bu it wont come off. It is open about 2 inches all the way around but it still won't come off. It feels like its getting stuck on something when you try pulling it.

DOH!! You can't separate the bell housing from the tranny like that and you will now find out the hard way. Bell housing is the bottom piece of the entire transmission assembly, another words, you can't get to it unless the entire transmission is disassembled. In your attempt to separate it, something is probably now out of place and will require a reassembly of the tranny. You should have read the manual first, good luck.

Good thing tranny was ruined anyway, I just wanted to see the carnage in the inside. So far i have had about 8 or 9 metal chuncks come out. Also do you know where i can find a good used tranny or a new one for a decent price? Also how would i be able to take the tranny completely apart?

You separate it piece by piece starting from the rear of the tranny. Do not turn this thread into a WTB ad.

I found one for you and sent you the link already. Yeah we were just trying to take it apart to look inside with the intention of not putting it back in the car again. Metal everywhere!!! But its cool to see inside one of our tranny's
