How do you take off the turbo inlet housing?

I want to polish mine but I have no idea how to get it off:mad:. I know that I'm supposed to bring those 2 little holes on the ring together so the ring gets smaller and the housing can be removed. But I'm not having any luck with this. I get the ring to the point where it connect but the housing won't budge. Things get even more stressful when the tweezers slip and the ring gets back to it's normal state.

How can I get the housing off?

What do you mean by the inlet housing (turbine housing exhaust inlet)? The compressor housing or the turbine housing? It sounds like you are fighting a snapring (which suck terribly). What are you trying to do here?

If you're trying to get the snap-ring off the turbo so you can take the compressor housing, you're going to need a special tool for it. These snap-rings are amazingly strong, and if they slip out, I'm sure they're probably strong enough to break a finger.

Edit: In case you're wondering just how strong they really are, here's how I found out. My uncle helped me put my 14b on and when we had the T25 off, he helped me dissect it. He had a nice set of snap ring pliers with removable tips for various applications. Trying to get the T25 compressor housing snap ring off, he broke two of the steel tips.

I've managed somehow to get the ring off and remove the compressor housing without any special tool. Now, putting the ring back on is a whole different story. OMFG, I thought it'll be easier to get it back on but it's a bi***, I've spend 2 hours trying to get it back on without success. What should I do and where can I get those snap ring pliers?

My makeshift snap ring plyers were a set of regular pliers with 2 small allen wrenches filling each hole of the snap ring. They were just big enough to fill the holes and stay in while I used the pliers to bring together the wrenches. It sucked, but it works if you don't have access to snap ring pliers and are impatient as I am. Putting it back on still sucks a fat one, though. If you can, I'd definitely advise snap ring pliers. They should be available at any hardware store. Once I got mine back in, it took a couple whacks of a 3 pound hammer (with cushioning on the turbo, of course) to get my snap ring properly seated. Make sure it seats properly or you will have a ####-eyed compressor housing that may screw up your compressor wheel.

crap I shouldn't have even removed it:( . The only place that I could actually find some ring pliers at is Sears. I might buy it since the pliers not tweezers (sorry for the confusion) that I've tried to use keep poping off the holes.

If you're having trouble keeping the snap ring pliers from popping out of the holes on the ring try using a set of regular needle-nose pliers. My Craftsmans have a very long handle and I got my snap ring in place first try. Make sure the tapered edge of the ring surface is facing upward or you'll never get it in.

I just kept imagining you hunched over a turbo with a pair of tiny tweezers trying to get a heavy-duty snap ring off. :)
