How do you get a PTE exhaust housing off ?

So much drama for such a small problem. Just start tapping the exhaust housing with a hammer all the way around dont be so scared. It will come off if you keep working at it.

there is no drama so stay out of this thread ...if you read I have tapped with a hammer all the way around .....Don't be scared are you not aware there are FINS in the exhaust housing that could be bent in doing this  :beatentodeath:

taking it off becuase I want to send it to HPC (High Perofmrnace Coating) to have it heat coated to go along with my 02 housing and my FP Race Manifold ...So I want it off to ship it so I don't have to send the whole thing.....

I just loosen the bolts a smidge, hit it with pb blaster and beat the crap out of it with a hammer.

Just make sure the bolts are barely loose so the blades dont hit the housing when it comes apart.

Yeah right, HPS is a coating shop not a turbo shop.

You just need a bigger hammer, try it out and you will get it off.

Yea, They are a coating shop and I don't feel like paying the extra freight for the extra weight that it will be .....And I don't won't those guy's to have to worrie about having to get it off ....which really is not their job !

I am telling you I have hit with a Hammer so many times my forearm hurt .....the bolts are backed out enough but not to much , and I have sprayed a hole can of PB blaster , WD40 and so on ....I have even taken a torch and heated it up just alittle to see if that would help but nothing has yet to work ..

I guess I am just going to have to deal with it being uncoated but I really would rather have it coated for the purpose of underhood temp !

Are you hitting it so that it trys to turn in the turbine housing, cause that wont work so well.

If its a working turbo, I would just leave it. I beat the crap out of mine to get it apart, but it was already a paper weight.

An uncoated turbine housing won't make that much of a difference, fyi. (but at least your mind is in the right place!)

it will make more of a diffrence with it then with out ....got to atleast keep some of the under hood temp's down since I will not be using a heat sheild , and I don't want to mess up my Fal Dual Fans ....

I guess if I cant get it off I could by a Turbo wrap kit ......which is going to look like shit but does work thats for sure

I know hitting it to the side so that it trys to turn isn't going to work ...but I have tried that just to break up some of the stiffness which still doesnt work

And it's a perfectly good working turbo

You know i have been working on turbochargers for almost 7 years and never had a turbine that would not come off. furthermore telling me to stay out of the thread is uncalled for i am an experienced tech that just told you how to remove the housing. I dont remeber telling you to bash the turbine blade with the hammer. Oh ya try putting the center section in a vice (with wood as not to damage it) and tap it with the hammer. Your arm is acting like a shock and the hammer hits are not doing anything to brake the bond between the center section and the turbine housing. Try it if it does not work your S.O.L
