How do you disable the clutch starter cutout switch thing? [Merged 10-6]

i had a little trouble seeing up high enough to disconnect it, and the lack of room made it worse. once it released it made me go "why was that so difficult?" if its hard to get at, its probably the right one.

Not that we'd ever expect anyone to search, but there's a video in our Tech section.

You can't reach the clutch switch. However, the connector that goes to it is right on the back side (in your face) of the pedal hanger mount. The white one.

The clutch will still work the same right, and what will happen if i leave the car in gear and try to start the car will it lung forward or what, id really appreciate all the help

I just did it to my 2g, the plug was easy to find, the switch a little hard. You just have to trace the wire. Its impossible to explain, so I took some good pics of the plug location, IM me on AIM if anyone needs the pics or help doing it to a 2g. :thumb:

hey can someone help ?im tryin to disconnect the clutch switch so i dont have to press down the clutch to start 'er up.does anyone know how to do it?i have a 97 gsx.

It's really easy there is a tech article on it and I believe a video, I'll try to find it. It's just a little white clip near the top of the pedal that needs to be disconnected.

Flip yourself upside down. Looking directly up to the steering column, your drivers side door on the right of you, look to the right. There is a white clip that is about 2-3inches in length. Seperate and try it out. You can even see the wire near the clutch pedal, if you need to just follow it toward the clip.

I tried to find this in the threads but couldn't come up with anything. I was wondering what the benefits or why some people have removed there clutch engagement switch so that you can start the car with out pushing the pedal down. Thanks, Jason

It reduces pressure on the thrust bearing before oil pressure builds up in the engine. It might reduce the possibility of crankwalk in the 2G.

If you had a 95 or 96, disconnect it. Since you have a 99, leave it connected. 98-99 cars have a lower chance of crankwalk compared to a 95-96. I have mine connected cause I don't want my car to hit something cause my wife always leaves it in gear everytime she drives the car. If you are getting an alarm with remote start, then you can use the "remote start" feature with the clutch switch disconnected.

Mine's disconnected to help in chasing the government out of my car. If someone doesn't have the brains to feel if the transmission is in neutral before turning the key, they have no business behind the wheel.

Never hooked it up when I did the trans swap. Just check that its in neutral every time I start it up.

:thumb: When I was on my way to buy my car, I said to my brother, no matter how sweet this car seems, I'll only buy it if it's not parked in gear. I guess I understand leaving it in a gear AND using the parking brake, but I know many people who don't use the parking break; they just leave it in 1st. Stupid if you ask me.

O.K. For some reason I disconnected the clutch switch so I wouldn't have to always press the clutch ,but it didn't work.Is this normal or am I doing something wrong.well t.i.a.

Technically, you should always park with it in gear and with the ebrake on. In case of ebrake failure, it will stop your car from rolling away.

That actually happened to my mom's friend. Ebrake failed on her Jetta, she didn't have it in gear, and it rolled out of her driveway and into her neighbor's. By some crazy stroke of luck, it didn't hit anything.

I agree, but I live in IL, so the biggest hill I'll be on is if I'm sitting on some trash in the parking lot__________________booooooring. Our roads are flat too, and straight. Only housing developments have twisties, and that would of course be stupid.

If I lived somewhere hilly I'd probably be paranoid and put blocks behind the wheels! (I've just seen the Farmers or State Farm commercial too many times where the dude leans on his classic Mustang and it rolls off the cliff) Ouch!

Thanks defiant,
I guess the guy that had the car before me disconnected it ,but when he reconnected it he but it all the way behind the fuse panel so i couldn't see it.But i found it and is working fine. Also, is it true that if I start the car this way that it'll wear out the clutch faster? Thanks for your help.

Neither way will affect the clutch. Starting with the clutch pressed in is suspected to be more wear on the crank thrust bearing, while starting with the clutch out means the starter motor also has to spin the clutch layshaft. I'm not always in my car when I start it, and I don't like the government telling me how to live. Parking in neutral, or shifting back to neutral before starting isn't a big challenge for me.

On the forum of the stage:0 free mods, there was one that said if you unplug the clutch switch you can start the car without stepping on the clutch and that should help the thrust bearing, well i did that and i still had to step on the clutch, am i doing something wrong? :dsm:
