okay, does anyone here run a twin plate clutch? they can apparently take more torque, like 800 ft/lbs, and are supposedly easy on the pedal....whats the deal with them? do they use the stock throw out bearing?

any help is appreciated
:laser:

wow these look amazing, i know that i dont have a manual, or any large amount of hp, but would a twin plate clutch be beneficial for road racing? the captions say they can handly upwards of 600 hp, so will it act odd with less?

Is it the kind of upgrade that workd at the begining, but is beneficial later on... like 3" exhaust, you may not "NEED" it at the beginign, but you will latter on.

Things like that are great to look at , but when you think about it, there is not really much of a need. There are several DSM's in the 9 second bracket that run a single plate clutch setup. If 9's are not fast enough, then i guess go for it, but i would not waste the money, get an act 2600 with a street disk, that will get the job done.

usually with a twin plate clutch will benefit for road racing and they do not fun as much pedal pressure as single plates do to hold as much power. the reason they are better is they are lighter/smaller in diameter than a single plate set up. the discs are usually cheaper to replace than single. dsm's are the only cars that i never really heard or seen of any or very few twin disc setups being run.

odd,

"they do not fun as much pedal pressure as single plates do to hold as much power."

what does that mean? any way, i wonder it its because there are more drag dsms, meaby twin plates have more of a road race idea,

my fault maybe i should spell check before i finish posting. they usually have a lot pedal pressure due to there size. no it is popular in drag racing also. look at supra and hondas. you have to remember any type of lighening of rotating assembly makes the engine work a little less(drag) so in the end you usable horsepower.

Isn't the ACT 2600 known for causing crank walk problems? With a twin disc you'd need less plate load due to the increased friction surface. Wouldn't this help? And thank you for your input, but I don't need you to tell me what I do and don't need on my car.

No, it's ASSUMED that it MIGHT cause crankwalk in SOME cars. People have jumped WAY too far on that bandwagon... if you want a twin plate go for it, I am just saying you could spend all that money somewhere else.

i have never seen a twin disk setup for our cars. Also if its going on your car then don't be so scared about crankwalk cuz u gotta 6-bolt engine. But u can check out many other clutches on www.horsepowerfreaks.com if you are concerned with using an ACT. also there is a clutch from AMS, some ferametalic disk with a stock PP or sumthin like that, that doesn't have the heavy pedal of a 2600 but is supposed to hold plenty of power. but sorry, never seen a twin disk for our cars.

:dsm: Just wanted to know if anyone has tried the twin disc clutch from clutch masters. Slowboy is selling it for 700 but they haven't replied to my email in about a month now. Just tired of my ACT 2600. Great clutch (3rd gear chirp with 6 puck) but getting tired of high pedal pressure. Heard the Exedy has been bullit proof for the EVO's. Thanks.

The evos pull type plate is a different animal...

I can tell you I like the pressure plate design and the flywheel looks nice. Billet aluminum flywheel and pressure plate basket.

If you can swing the price go for it.

I'd drop $1.5k on ti rods before a clutch... but that is me and I already have a aluminum flywheel and my clutch system figured out...

Hi guys/gals , I've been reading alot about how people really arent liking the act street clutches any more because of faulty springs and what not. Too many reasons to list.

Anyways my tranny is in need of a rebuild ,so I dont want to have to worry about it for the next 3 years at least, hence why it's going to shep. I want to build the best tranny possible so Im interested in installing the stage 4 exedy clutch along with the stage 2 shep tranny rebuild.

Then other things like a ss clutch line and a spool will also be going in.

Point being, has anyone ever had any experience with this specific clutch?

After seeing what can happen to sprung centers Im kinda leaning towards a solid center clutch.

Anyways drop in your 2 cents ###.

Wow what was I thinking ????????????/ Overkill.

I was scared of sprung center disks ,so I thought maybe going with a reputable clutch maker and getting their solid disk would be the way to go. First off the stage four is a race clutch, and extreamly expensive to boot.

So after reaserching I decided to go with an act 2100 with a solid center 6 puck disc.the characteristics are a little more aggresive then the street disk but because it's a 2100 it really shouldnt be too much of an issue with possible crank walk.

I feel better knowing that I was still able to outsource a reputable company with a good product. I currently have the 2100, w street disk and I enjoyed it, so hopefully the 6 puck disk will be better. The only thing I cant seem to shake is the trade off, more noise from the tranny only to keep me from worrying about a spring popping out.

Anyways I just thought I should share.

i am looking to spend $900-$1000. i just wanted to know if there were any twin disc clutches for that price? and where could i get them?
