How do I remove just the a/c compressor from a 2G FWD?

I want to keep the hoses hooked up just incase I ever put the compressor back in, but I have leak some where and the system will not hold a charge. I tried a leak finder kit and still not sure where it's at. I'm interested in just removing the compressor to drop the weight but not sure how it's held in and which way it comes out of the car. Any advice would be great!

The compressor is bolted to a bracket that is bolted to the back of the block. It would be easiest to drop out the bottom, but it is possible to pull it out the top. However, there are two lines that bolt to the compressor so if you would plan on using it again, you'd have to replace some o-rings, get all the lines cleaned, and then leak tested. You would also have to figure out a way to keep the lines from bouncing around.

Do I have to remove the axel to get it out? I don't see any space big enough to pull it out from.

You have to pull the axle or the intake. I would choose the axle.

Well since the compressor is in such a "safe place", I'm going to take it to car x and see if they can find the darn leak and fix it. I'm done messing with it for now... I'm must of spent 3-4 hours with a crappy pen sized uv light that kept turning on and off...

Well $140 later a shop couldn't find the leak and charged the system again...just a matter of time before it leaks down before I take the system apart. I guess I'll start in front by the condensor since my FMIC makes it hard to see the front of it for leaks. Else I'll start in the dash :(

Alright looks like it's still not holding a charge, surprise surprise...Think I have a case to get my money back? I asked them to just check for leaks for $29.99 (AC Inspection)...
