I just recently got done installing a used a/c compressor uggh
my question is that with my older one I could hear the compressor engage easily (clicking noise) . now whenever I turn the compressor on for just a {second} (because it has'nt been evacuated yet and no freon is in it. I can't hear the compressor clutch engauge, I can feel the engine slowing down which seems to make me think its ok should I normally hear it engauge easily or was that just because the other compressor clutch was going south. would appreciate any input.

PS: I'll be getting the a/c lines evacuated and freon charged in a few days.

I did not replace the drier yet. I also thought there was a safty switchn there to prevent the compressor from engauging under low pressure

The click on your old compressor was good because that's the clutch engaging the compressor. Like you said, there's no click now because your compressor isn't filled so there's no pressure (force) to overcome when the clutch engages, so it engages smoothly.
