i got a a/f guage, what wire do i tap? what color anyway, on my honda it was the blue one, what about this one? its a 95 eagle talon TSi

The front O2 sensor reads your a/f ratio and gives more or less gas depending on the readings... If it isn't working I guess it gives it extra gass to keep it safe causing you to lose gas mileage. I was getting under 200 miles to a tank on premium with the o2 sensor not working.. now I am back to well over 250 to a tank..

HELP!! I searched and found different answers, so to get some clarification on where to connect ALL the wires for the A/F gauge. First the best place to splice for the wires is from the engine bay by the ECU, or on the drivers side behind the radio? The o2 sensor wire (purple) is connected to a black wire with a white stripe or a white wire with a black stripe? the red for power is connected to the ignition or cig lighter? and the black for ground is to what wire, I want to connect the black one to a wire most post say connect it to the car not a wire, ok im not sure what that means since im just begining, and i've read its suposed to be connected to a wire anyways. so if someone could PLEASE PLEASE walk me thru it I would really appriciate it. oh and this is for a GS model (420a).

What year is your car? I spliced my wire to the ecu harness under the hood. If you have the later model ecu, with two connectors, then its the top connector, remove the wiring cover off the harness and look for the White wire with Black Stripe(front o2 sensor). Splice the A/F gauge wire onto that one, cover it up and run that wire back into the car. For power you can use the cig. lighter.

ECU pinout.

Thanks for the info, I was able to connect it this weekend. I connected the purple wire to the ecu's upper harness wire, that was white with a black stripe, and the black wire the the ecu's black ground wire, and the red wire to the blue wire from the cig for power.

problem: Since I installed the a/f gauge, my car dies every time I sart it from a cold start. What caused that? It only started once I connect the gauge. help!! Has any one heard of this?

So its the ground wire thats causing the problem? Im not really good at checking for bad wires, couldn't I cut the soldered a/f gauge ground wire off the ecu ground? or did i already mess it up?

Did you put electrical tape over your solder? That could be it.
Also, Instead of making a mess and just clipping the soldered wire off, use the Rosin Core Solder remover (or any other solder remover). It's easy and that way you wont have the wire nub sticking off.

EDIT: Try disconnecting the A/F gauge from the power supply and try that way. Also make sure your O2 sensor wire is completely covered (where you spliced into it).
Just my .02 on soldered wires.

Why yes, yes I did cover both the ground wire and the purple one with electrical tape after I soldered them.

ok, first I'm going to disconnect the power source and see what that does.

If I have to remove the ground wire from the ecu where would I connect it? And how would I cover up the exposed ground wire on the ecu?

Use electrical tape, heat shrink tubing, etc.. to cover up exposed wire. Whatever it takes.

Here's how I would wire one of these things:
*Gauge's red wire to the cigarette lighter's blue wire.

*Gauge's purple wire to the white/black wire coming from the O2 sensor. Don't even worry about getting it close to the ECU. Messing with that bundle of wires is just opening a can of worms. You can tap the wire after the connector that connects to the O2 sensor. Just make sure it it protected, and doesn't touch the exhaust.

*Gauge's white wire to the stereo harness's green/white wire. It'd be best to run this through a relay with a direct +12V source from the battery, by tapping the coil into the harness's appropriate wire and grounding the opposing end. If you don't know how to do this, don't worry about it.

*Gauge's black wire to a suitable ground. I recommend keeping the ground wire relatively short. Remember that the whole chassis of the car acts as a ground. As long as the wire is attached to something metal on the car, it should be just fine. Just make sure it is absoltely attached to something metal, since sometimes screws and bolts will seat in plastic retainers. I would advise against tapping the main ECU harness more than necessary.

My A/F gauge didn't have a white wire on it, just three wires: red, black, and purple.

What is the purpose of the white wire?

ok i just installed a new air fuel ratio guage. I used the faqv website for help. the gauge lights up and everything for power like it should. when i turn the key on the gauge says rich and doesnt even move when the cars running. Can someone give me some ideas? the only thing i can think of is where i hooked up the wire for the 02 sensor. I didnt find any plugs that had the female ends but one.... any help would be great thanks guys!

When I had a narroband a/f read out, I actually just tapped directly into the o2 sensor wire (in the engine bay). If I were you, I would sell the a/f gauge and get a wideband o2. The narrowband "light dance" a/f ratio gauge tells you squat and it NOT ACCURATE TO USE FOR TUNING.
