How did you 2G GST 5 speed starter start to fail?

How did your starter start to fail? I have about 200,000 miles on my and it maybe starting to not spin the motor as fast as it use too, but I'm not sure of this is common or not...? Can I test this with DSMLink before I replace the starter?

No, you can not check the starter with DSMLink but before replacing starter check your battery first, maybe you have a dying battery, also the grounding and terminals.

My battery is a fairly new die hard, i.e. less then a year. Ground wires have been upgraded, but I'll check the terminals. The radio, fuel pump, etc seems to be working just fine. I have one cylinder with pretty low compression, but need a little more life out of this engine. The start of winter is not a good time to give up Runs well once fired up. The exhaust note did seem a little off when I had issues starting it, but figured is was just warming up. Sounds normal now. I wonder if I just had some carbon on the valves...?

Are you trying to test and see if your starter is bad? If so you can take it off and take it to an autoparts store. They can test your starter inside.

Not sure, my car is having issues starting once in a blue moon. With one cylinder haveing compression issues, I would think it would still fire up. Perhaps the engine is getting flooded with fuel. Would applying a little thottle help with cold starting?
