I recently installed a SBR Race FMIC this weekend, and I had to completly eliminate the steel bumper in order for it to fit, and that's where the stock bumber cover bolts on to. I was wondering what kind of custom fabricating did you do in order to re-mount the front fascia, and have it look good and not flap in the wind. Thanks for the help.

dejontools has a race front bumper support you can buy. I was able to keep enough from my support to bolt my bumper cover back on. Did you cut up the support or just remove the whole thing?

I just removed the whole thing. I didn't want to hack up my steel bumper and still have the chance of it not fitting. the SBR race kit is HUGE! I will probly have to end up fabbing up some custom brackets or something. dejons kit is just a new bumber made of aluminum thats easier to cut.

Over 2 days since a reply, I hope this bump is OK, if not, close it.

Is anyone making custom brackets or something to hold on the bumper w/out the steel support? I dont want my front fascia just flapping in the wind.

Measure twice, cut once. Or cut it in small increments until it fits, your choice. You won't have to cut the bumper so far that it breaks or anything; you may have to hack a lot of it with that core, but it will work. Even with just the mounting points and the very front part of the bumper, it will provide enough support for your bumper cover to not flap or look weird or anything. This is essentially what dejon's is, except theirs is lighter, as it's aluminum. No need to spend another $180 rather than hack your own.

Im not worried about cutting the bumper, its the remount that im worried about. Im not going to cut the stock stell bumper support and try to fit it in there, theres not enough room w/ my FMIC. I need a different solution, other than cutting my steel peice, or buying dejon's bumper to keep it supported.

Hey there I am doing the same thing... can you IM me via AIM @ My90GSXTurbo or YAHOO @ dndcomputers2001

Thanks
Dave

Ok.. I just installed my Large FMIC. I removed the 5mph bumper all together and just made some brakets to goto the Upper Radiator support bar. (Whatever you call it) Here is a pic of it all installed without pipes.

I have the same SBR fmic. I put the bolts back into the bumper/fender on each side, Then in the front, I used zipties. I ziptied the middle by the hoodlatch(You'll see what I mean on your car, Then on the front under the headlights, I put zipties to something but I forget what. Just run them through where the bolts useto go, And find a place to zip tie them to. If they're not long enough, Connect two more as many needed together, To get to the location you want to put them to.

\/ Sbr fmic.

You can cut enough of the bumper support to clear the fmic and still have mounting locations for the cover. If you cant figure that out, I dont think you are ready to have a fmic.
Im not stupid, and sorry I didn't mention this earlier, but my car was slightly wrecked when I bought it, in the front, and the steel bumper had a huge "dent" in it if you will. This is why I can't or don't want to re-use the steel bumper.

Thanks for all the help too guys, I guys Zip Ties is the way to go.

when putting my front mount in, i just busted out the oxygen/actelene torch and 5 minutes later i had a rather clean cut out to fit my fmic. little grinding to get rid of some slag and i was set. i've seen a lot of people use zip ties or try getting creative by stoping at home depot for some steel or aluminum to make some thing.

As soon as the rain stops I will get you some pics of the mounts. probably tomorrow. Nothing fancy... just a straight flat piece of aluminum with self tapping screws. Works great!! :thumb:

Also I cut my steal bumper into 3 pieces, basicly took the middle out and just used the ends to secure the sides of the bumper cover. Again works great!! :thumb:

Here is a pic of the mounts that I made for my front bumper cover. Like I said... Nothing fancy and you cant see them under the lower lights. :thumb:

hey i have the same sbr front mount, it was kinda a pain to get it to fit right but its do-able. i think someone might have touched on this, but just cut the support into 3 pieces, use the two spots that used to mount to the chasis so you have something to start with, there should be a flimsy piece of metal that goes between the 5mph bumber and the plastic cover on top where they bolt together. use that as a template and either make or have someone make something similarly sized to it out of steel. drill the bolt holes where they should be (use the stock metal piece as a template) and then have someone weld it to the outer pieces you saved from the front 5mph bumber..works GREAT may sound like alot of work but it only took me like 3 hours with a saw zaw and a few trips to the local welder also only cost me 20 bucks. not as much work as hackin the bumber to fit and im sure its quite a bit more reliable than any amount of zip-ties. if you do it right it looks great too, look at the shots of my front end in my profile. no sagging, no gaps, looks bad-a$$, pm me if you have any questions.. :rocks:
