How affective is the safc II for my car?

I dont have enough money for dsm link right now, how affective would an afc II be, i can get a god deal on one, i have light mods (fmic, 16g, exhuast, intake) at 12psi, and my engine was rebuilt with 1g rods and 2g pistons. Is it worth getting one to tune the fuel trim a bit? thanks

Sure. It will tune I do believe, be sure to research fully before quoting me, a max of 650cc injectors. But if you can hold off on boosting that 16g any higher then I would probably hold out for link.

i can absolutely hold out, i just figured the car may run a little safer, maybe get a few more miles to the gallon, but then again, i will need a pocket logger and someone who knows what there doing right? :)

Yea, I've played the same game. What do you really need and how far are you really gonna go. Honestly, I have learned to do it once by now. I bought SMIC piping and kick myself in the a** for it everyday. I'd say keep that 16g turned down low and save your money for link.

A SAFC isn't really a 'tuning' tool. It more or less lies to get you more or less fuel as far as your Injectors can handle. Some people have pulled alright numbers using one but it's certainly not the end all of tuning solutions. It offers no logging abilities and beyond lying to your ECU about the amount of air that your MAF is intaking and, in turn, adds or removes fuel.

SAFC II worked very well for me at that level of mods and a bit beyond. Once you progress further though you'll need to replace it. Mine is just a pretty display now with all the settings zeroed out.

Before you get an SAFC a wideband, datalogger, boost gauge, boost controller, injectors, and fuel pump (with an AFPR if needed) should be purchased. And in that order too.

ya the only problem that with safc is that you cant control the timing and since it lies to the ecu about how much air its getting it will advance the timing because it thinks there is less of a load so it can work out against you. Honestly its better than nothing but I will be saving for dsmlink v3 instead of the safc neo like I was planning.

I went with the datalogger/safc route for now (still in the mail)...its all what your budget can provide. I say go for it!

Hey dsmking i should take a roadtrip out to ya for a safc lesson!

i used one on my gst, i tuned it with a friend at 22 lbs with a 50trim and 560cc, 190lp last me bout 4 to 5 months till i bent a rod

Ostrich, yo.

Ostrich is good in it's own way. I used it for a few months I will admit, I was pretty impressed with some of it's features and ability to get things done. It's basic.. not user friendly, and has a strong learning curve. Once you get the hang of it, however, it's second nature and can do just about anything you need. The ONLY thing I've found better is ECU+, in that respect. ECU+ is probably the BEST tuning solution you can get for these vehicles without buying link. It's like.. Link without a college degree.
