hey guys! it's been a while(about a year) but im finally back and i have my car put back together with arp head studs and a fresh head and mls hg, and cleaned her up(ill post up some pics later) and finally got her running damn near perfect! i just have a few quick questions. i ran my car to school and to work yesterday and i got out, and i popped thehood and i noticed my engine is hot! ran a inferred on my exhaust manifold and its about 200 degrees hotter than what it should be. what would cause that? could the cas being off have anything to do with it? so far as mods, im running an e3b16g with a mbc set at 7lbs of boost, an ssqv vented to atmosphere,2g maf, and a fmic.(i know vented bov's make it run rich and yadayadayada; i just need to know why its running so hot.) any help is appreciated!

ROFLROFLROFL That was pretty funny ^^^ But your coolant temp sounds around normal if your thermostat it stock (195 degrees). May be on the high side. Is it hot where you live? (Saw you lived in AL) As for your EGT, how do you know it is 200 degrees hotter than what it should be? If you want actual EGT, you will need an EGT gauge and the probe and tap your exhaust manifold or weld in a bung. Not a inferred thermometer on your exhaust manifold. And EGT's are always changing with how hard you drive the car. The more throttle, the hotter it gets.

I work at a mechanics shop and my boss said it's way too hot.

He said what's too hot? Your coolant temp? Your exhaust temp? Since he say's it's about 200* too hot I'm assuming you mean the exhaust temp.
My exhaust gas temp reads an easy 1500* when I'm at full throttle/full boost and at idle it drops down to about 900-1000* and this is all normal. So just how hot are we talking here? Does your boss even know what kind of egt's are seen on a turbo car? It's waaaaay more than a N/A motor.;)

I think you may have found your problem.

Get a real pyrometer if you want to measure EGTs. An infrared thermometer on the exhaust manifold is not going to give you an accurate idea of your EGTs. Kind of like performing neurosurgery with a pipe wrench. Wrong tool, wrong job.

This^^^ is pretty much what I came here to say.

I measure EGT on both sides of the turbine wheel LOL

If the man boss says its too hot then its too hot the boss is always right especially if you want to keep your job!

Lol kind of a late reply. Ignition timing was a good bit off. Usually I take things my (ex) boss with a grain of salt but my manifold was glowing which threw a literal red flag when I popped my hood at night. Car was running great after I adjusted the cas, but I just bought a new gsx that I just got done six bolt swapping with the engine from my laser:) thanks for the help.[DOUBLEPOST=1415714706][/DOUBLEPOST]Gravedigger, he does know about imports and turbo cars, it was a shop "specializing" in imports but it was mainly a bunch of Hondas and Subarus plus general maintenance. I made the mistake of thinking he knew everything he tried to acted like he knew about. Smh but then again that's why he is out of bussiness(among other reasons)
