Hi, this is my first post... I've had my car for about three years and haven't really had a problem with it aside of needing new belts, hoses, etc. But now, it seems that there's a problem. Everything is normal when I start my car and drive it around. But when I come to a stoplight and am there for more than 30 seconds, the temperature needle goes up. It goes down when I rev the engine or step on the gas to get moving. I think maybe it's the radiator fan. I tried letting my car coast downhill (without stepping on the gas), and it still does it until I step on the gas. I think it also affects my heater too, i notice the air getting cold when the temperature needle goes towards hot. But when I'm driving/stepping on the gas, the heater blows hot again...

I hope was pretty descriptive. Someone help?

First off, coolant levels: check them. Other than low on coolant, it sounds like it might be your water pump, which is connected to the engine, so it spins faster when the engine speed is higher. That could explain why the temp goes up when the car is at idle (coasting, sitting at a light). Thats all I got, good luck.

Check the belt tension on the water pump. It's possible that it's so loose, it's not turning the water pump until the belt gets moving so fast.

Dang. That sound probably right. I was afraid of that. I should've had it changed it when I had my timing belt changed... I'll get on it. Thanks

It sounds like the water pump , have you checked your thermostat and its a possibility that it could be your Rad. fan , easy way to check if the fan motor is out is turn on the AC and see if it kicks on or not or you can run a piggy back to the connector from the battery and see if it kicks on that way..... best of luck
