Hoses from Valve Cover

What is the function of the 2 hoses that run from the valve cover to 1) the intake pipe and 2) the intake manifold? Hoses have been highlighted in picture below. My guess is that the hose from the cover to the intake pipe heats up the pipe and the other hose heats up the manifold? Isn't cold air better so what's the point of these? Can both be removed and replaced with breather filters and vacuum caps or can I just do that to 1?

Sorry, that's the PCV system not some heater. It's used to vent crankcase pressure to the intake to be burned vs poluting the atm like we used to before you were born.

I've seen people use a mini cone air filter on their valve cover instead of a hose connecting to their intake. Is it ok to do that and cap the hole to the intake? I wont mess with the other hose with the pcv valve.

Do you have oil in your intake?

The turbo engines have an issue where the PCV is sealed whenever we are under boost, which happens to be when we have the highest chance of blowby. That leaves the crankcase pressurized with no place for it all to go but out the breather and into the intake coating everything with oil. We really have to run a catch can (oil seperator), just putting a filter on the breather would cause unmetered air to be drawn in under vacuum and oil spray out the filter under boost.

NA's still have the issue with unmetered air being drawn in by the PCV valve if you just put a filter on the valve cover. That's why the factory connects the breather hose to the intake so only metered air is used.

We aren't talking about a lot of air entering the intake this way and lots of people have put breather filters on their intake with out sigificant side effects. You should understand whats going on so you can make an informed decision, otherwise putting one on would be for looks not performance, around here we call that rice.

Last time I checked, there was no oil inside my intake. I realize that having a breather probably would not benefit me, but is it worth getting a catch can if it's real cheap? May have a turbo eventually...

the one that goes to the cold air intake is a breather for for the oil, the other one is a vacuum in for the valve cover. -Another breather to get air in. (from what i know)

-note: the one going from the cold air can get a wallymart tiny filter, the one going into the manifold is a huuugee nono cause u take that vacuum off ur allowing ur intake manifold to suck all the air in that it wants which means ur car is gonna like go up to 5,000rpms and sit there even at a stop.

Yes, if you want your whole underhood area evenly coated with used crankcase oil, this is the way to do it.

Don't even think about it. It's just fine the way it is.
