Yes I did a search. Anyone ever installed shocks the support their hood on a 2g, like what holds up the hatch instead of that dinky little bar?

I would just like to point out that Tein's dampers use the stock bolts so you don't have to drill new holes for them. But they are much more expensive...

So, I just bought a hood shock set on E-bay.
It came in today!!:hellyeah:
It looks really nice, I got the real carbon fiber shocks.
The kit installs with out drilling holes, it came with instructions.
Plus it came from Japan and it only took about a week to get here!:thumb:
Here are some pictures of it.
I'll install it tonight and post some installed pictures as well.
The price shipped was 79.99.

Well I just finished putting in the hood shocks, it was really easy to do.
I can't really complain about them, I do have some "fitment" issues when the hood is closed.
Meaning that the passenger side isn't level, it is raised up about an 1/8 of an inch or less.
My hood was a little off all ready and I've been meaning to try and adjust it.
Plus my car was wrecked, on that side before I got it.:ohdamn:
I didn't put up a picture of it with the hood closed.
Because I'm going to loosing all the mounts on the hood
and try and straighten everything out first.:banghead:

I have the Teins. Be careful letting other people open your hood, everyone expects it to be heavy and lifts too hard and makes the hood fly up :ohdamn:

I am extremely curious how these hold up over time, remember these wear out, and I dont want to spend $80/year for this convenience

Do you have any problems, when the hood is closed?
Or does it look as flush as OEM?..
Just wondering because, yours look a little longer than mine and I'm having a little hood gap.
How long are they fully extended?

They make the back of the hood raise up a little when closed but its not from the strut, its just from the width of the plate that goes under the hinge.

Looking at the way that those Tein's are mounted, it is different from what the instructions that came with mine said.
It looks like they are in between the hinge and the hood???
The instructions that I got basically said to remove the upper bolt on the hinge and put the bracket up and bolt it back in.(Under neath the hinge)
Maybe this is why I'm having some fitment issue's?:aha:
I'll take another look at the instructions, when I get off work.

Also mine are mounted to a different fender bolt....

I don't have personal experience with the Teins but a local shop warned that while it's a nice brand name they are too strong for anything other than stock metal hoods as they, like someone posted earlier, will open the hood quite fast. With a lighter hood like fiberglass or carbon fiber they warned they could definitely cause damage from swinging open.

I'm hoping someone will pipe into this thread with some experience with some good fitting ones on lighter hoods. I wanna lose that annoying rod already :)

I designed a gas strut door system for work. The way they are mounted on that eclipse, the gas strut is lifting the hood at only maybe 6" inches from its pivot. The gas strut has a fairly quick opening speed if its not running too much oil, which they don't. That means the other end of the hood is traveling fast. The way to slow it down is to mount the gas strut riding along with the hood, if that makes sense, and have the other end mounted 4"-6" from the hood pivot on the non-moving fender. Hard to describe, but what will happen is the end of the gas strut will be mounted much closer to the end of the hood, hence the opening speeds will come down & the opening force will remain nearly the same. Gas struts are maybe $18 ea from Mcmaster Carr and the mounting bracketry is widely available in standardized sizes.

:aha: I think you mounted yours upside down too.

Why do you say that?
Mine are angled down just like the picture of the Teins.
Just not in between the hood and the hinge, but under the hinge.

Oh wait do you mean the actual damper is upside down?
The compression end is facing down, isn't that how those Teins are mounted?.

Looks nice, what is the link to the auction? How well do they hold the hood up?

Here you go, this is the same auction I got mine from.
Half the price of the Teins and real carbon fiber!!!
Plus free shipping. (Even to Alaska, which is hella rare!!)

Gas struts are typically mounted "rod" end down to avoid dirt infiltration into the dynamic seals providing longer life and also to allow the dampening/lubricating oil to provide a cushion at the end of the stroke to prevent gas strut damage.

These seem way too over priced, they do look nice though.

But aren't those things always high? I seem to remember my hatch struts costing about that.

It would drive me nuts if they make the hood sit out of line, though. But I look the look.

I wonder if you could just run one of them if you switch to a lighter hood to solve the fly up problem, like the Evo kits do.
