hey, i am about to buy a carbon fiber hood for my 91 tsi, but i am wondering what the differnece between a bolt on hood, and a pin on hood is, and, if anyone has any pics of their 1g with a carbon fiber hood, or carbon fiber light covers please let me know, i would like to see a pic oof what it looks like together, thanks luke

Most hoods are basically bolt on meaning you just take your stock one off and put the new one on in reverse order. The hood Pins are basically a safety measure so that if the latch comes loose the pins will noit allow your hood to fly in your face. I ran my Cervini Mach 5 hood on my focus for a year with no pins and had 0 issues....It's all in the size of your balls my friend ;)

a "bolt on hood" typically uses the stock rear hinges and most likely the front latch (you use hood pins in the front for safety if you like.

a "pin on hood" typically has no provisions for being mounted to the hinges or the latch,. you need 4 hood pins here two at the front and two at the back. a pin-on hood is usually significantly cheaper.....if you don't mind not having it hinged and needing at least 4 hood pins
