Hey, i just bought a car with a vis carbon fiber hood. I know alot of people say to put on hoodpins but i dont like the way they look. Are there any alternatives? The least thing i want is for my hood to fly thru my windshield a 100mph. If its a problem I may just go back with an oem hood.

Dzus fasters were proposed by someone, but I've yet to see them implemented. Shouldn't be too challenging to rig up. Do a Google for them. Aircraft stuff, and body panels on racer cars.

Don't even think of driving a CF hood without some extra restraint.

i've been driving with my VIS carbon fiber hood without hood pins for over a year now. The latch wroks perfect for me, not even the slightest rattle/shake, and i've gone well over 100 plenty of times...

They seldom will rattle or shake. They just fail. Catastrophically.

Yea im going to have to say no thanks to that happening.

yea it seems like people have been busting windshields a lot recently i never heard about u needed hood pins up until maybe this summer? makes me not wanna CF hood 1 cus i dont wanna new windshield n 2 because i really dont want it looking tackie with hood pins...im guessing that the hood is differnt with the latch....hoods shouldnt pop up just because they are lighter... i think theres a factory defect with how they make the latch...i dunno tho

eh just go with the pins, you may hear people say "oh ive had my hood for X months its fine" and then a couple months u see a pic on the hangout with their windshield smashed.

btw my sig isnt up to date, i have sparco hood pins now

I drove for about 6 months without hood pins untill i noticed the under side of the hood was seperating from the top so i had to put them on. The new ViS racing hoods are double sided and much stronger. My friend just got one for his gs-t. i dont see that hood needing any pins.

i dont know why the question of using hoodpins or not even comes up. lets see, you just spent 400+ for a hood and your windshield is what? ill take a guess and say another 300? i dont know the prices for a windshield, but damn, wouldnt you just spend 30 bucks to save yourself from 700+ worth of damage?!? i know people like the clean look of a hood without pins, but damn people, lets think ;) IF there was some other non-ghetto 100% asured way of securing a hood other then pins then go for it, but until then. bah, get pins :thumb:

God theres gotta be a way manufactuars could implement something that could replace the need for hoodpins. A few extra latches that you could install on the car and attach to the hood easily. Or at least extra hooks on the hood itself to be able to connect short straps too or something. I also thought something like a short bugee cord w/ better latching end hooks would be a temporary idea.

I have to say that hood pins are a must. My first carbon fiber hood flew up on me and caused all sorts of damage. I had an VIS Invader hood so it not only got the windshield but also got the roof area. It ended up costing me, or insurance, like $2000+. The broken hood now hangs on my wall in my room. Just my 2 cents.

take my advice....

been running my CF hood with no pins for over a year now, been over 100 with it plenty of times too hehe, just get a cf hood that has a metal latch

why dotn you guys check into FIBER IMAGES hoods, they are guaranteed notto crack break or separate. even if you take it off, lay it on the ground and drive over it. check out thier website, the have videos of them drivein over them with big a$$ trucks and nuthin happens to the hood, and those are the hoods without the bracing underneath.

in my opinion, i have a dealer account with VIS and i think their hoods suk. alot of the ones i have seen fit like ebay body kits. fiber images hoods fit like they came from the mitsu dealer.

If you want to trade i will pay the shipping costs.......

lemme know.

seems to me that CF should be stronger. Sometimes I feel like manufactures are cutting corners or something

Well, it is stronger, but not in the direction that the wind pulls and pushes on the hood. It's not the CF that fails, it's the layer of resin holding the layers together. Now, if they'd get serious about it and weave the CF together, or overlap some layers before the resin, the problem should go away.... so long as the resin's top-shelf. However, this all would add weight, and the actual reason[i/] for even going with something so god-awfully butt-looking ugly is that it's nice and light. Which in turn gives it the kind of beauty usually only found on multi-ton miltary armored vehicles. I guess.
