So i have decieded on a HX35 for its price efficency and very strong ties to being succesful in DSM's...Now i need help in decieding the parts to place arround it keeping in mind the lower the price the better as well as ease of install and tuning...

Goals are: 400ish on complete 93 pump, 525 on 110 octane. I would like to have a 10.8 et car full weight. Spool up at 3700rpms.

Supporting mods: 6 Bolt, 1g big rods, IX pistons, dsm link, 1000cc inj, walbro 255, MBC, punishment racing FMIC kit, 272 cams, 1g TB/IM, Frackenstein stg 1 head, Jacks value tranny, Jacks transfer case rebuild...

Turbo - HX35 7 blade(60lb turbo), trying to achieve 525 with ease and the ability to possible grow a little more if my goals arent met at the track. Where is the best place to buy??? I searched on ebay and found a couple in the 250-400 range, is there a better site?

Housing - I researched BEP and i see tims turbo and SBR sell them, but i cant find them on either of there sites. What would be the better housing to use for my goals, will .55 meet my goals without surging or is the .70 a better choice??? Can i buy these directly with a V band and if so will someone recomend a nice 2.5" O2 / 3.0" TBE that will fit up good with a V band.

O2 - This is where im really confused, where can i buy one that will mount a WG on it??? Theres so many different turbos and housings out there, its confusing trying to find ones that all match.

Manifold - I really want to run the FP, unless theres a cheaper one out there to meet my goals? I wanted to mount a WG on the manifold but searching didnt show any good results.

So can you guys try to rpovide me with some links, pretty much i have been doing all my window shoping at FP, punishment, SBR, and timsturbo.

Good choice on the tranny. Its the one I run and works great. Dsmlink is estimating 430lb/tq and I do use it a lot, LOL. Ive know Jack for a long time and hes a great guy.

If you really want to get that power out of that hx35 you will need the big housing (.70 T3). You cant get the full potential airflow with the .55. Most logs show around 50lb/min with the small housing. If you call up BEP they will ship directly too you or you can call Slowboy to get the housing from them, but its not on there websites.

Make sure when you order the housing that you get the one made for the wastegate to mount on the o2 housing. Punishment racing makes good o2 housings that should work fine since you will most likely be going with a t3 .70 BEP housing.

Since you want that power with that turbo you will need a t3 manifold to get the full 60lb/min. I would just do some research and find the best one at a good price determined on your research. There are a lot out there. 90% of them fit fine with the holset turbos and the t3 .70 bep housing without issues. When you use the stock holset housing then there becomes fitment issues.

Or you can always go with an hx40 8 blade that will flow 60lb/min in the .55 bolt on BEP housing. You will loose a little spool but may be cheaper going with a mitsu manifold instead of t3.

So just to make sure...I buy Holset HX35 + FP race mani + Punishment O2 housing recirculated + BEP .70 AR housing = Everything lines up perfect, right???

This is the O2:

Talon/Eclipse Tial MVS 38mm wastegate / recirculated o2 housing package

As far as the BEP housings, im really just curious on how much they are since they arent on anyones site?

this is the exact setup im working on!!! :thumb: and yes everything will go together good!!! the bep turbine housing is around $200
i picked up my hx35 for $50 in awesome shape! :hellyeah:
im getting my oil lines from extreme psi, and getting oil from the head!! and exact o2 housing, wastegate combo! and fp mani!!!

Lately I've been trying to stock HX35 cores at all times. If you're in the market for a freshly-rebuilt HX35 that you can trust for years to come instead of some random used turbo that could be full of metal, I'm your guy.

You won't find the housings on SBR's site for some reason, and Tims has them on their site but wasn't responding to emails the last I looked. Just get in touch with Bullseye direct- if they won't sell you a housing, they can hopefully put you in touch with a responsible dealer.

If you're looking to flow the full 60 lb/min potential of the HX35 compressor, look to the .70 a/r T3. This housing only comes with a 3" v-band outlet, and you'll probably have to fab your own o2 housing no matter what. There are far too many manifolds available that place the turbos in various locations for someone to develop an o2 housing that will work with all of them.

O2 - This is where im really confused, where can i buy one that will mount a WG on it??? Theres so many different turbos and housings out there, its confusing trying to find ones that all match.
You'll only need an o2 housing with the wastegate on it if you're using the DSM bolt-on housing and the manifold you're using does not have an external wastegate flange. All T3 .70 a/r BEP housings require the external wastegate to be manifold-mounted.

Manifold - I really want to run the FP, unless theres a cheaper one out there to meet my goals? I wanted to mount a WG on the manifold but searching didnt show any good results.
Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you're not going to do this with a cheap manifold. I recently had to drop over $500 on a ERL Cast Stainless manifold because it's the only production manifold that properly clears the block with the T3 .70 a/r BEP housing. It seems like a lot of money, however this should be the last manifold I'll ever have to buy.

Well that was very informative. PM me your price on the holset turbos...

I wish I would have just bought the ERL for my HX35. I bought the RevHard T4 manifold and re-drilled it to a T3 pattern. I only paid $214 shipped for the manifold but have had to buy a JayRacing alternator kit ($125) since the stock 12cm2 housing left about 2.5" of total clearance between the turbine outlet and the alternator case. That would have meant I'd have to have an o2 housing with a terrible bend in it which would probably negate the extra flow I'd see from using the stock divided housing. The RevHard also has an awkward placement of the wastegate flange (under the manifold behind the flange and between runners 2 and 3) and I'll be having a friend make a pipe to run between the back of the turbine housing and the water pipe. I also had to knock a decent size dent in the front crossmember and remove the front rollstop to clear the 2.5" 90* coupler that I have coming off of the compressor outlet. One more thing.........I wasn't able to find the determination to try and make power steering fit with this manifold. I've seen pictures of 1g's that have retained the PS, but I just decided to scrap the whole system.

On the plus side block clearance is ridiculous. I think you could probably fit anything but the largest GT4x series of turbos in a bottom mount setup and still maintain decent radiator clearance with pusher fans. I don't have a front shot of the compressor to block clearance but I hope this pic will give you an idea........

Overall, the headache of making this manifold work far outweighed the cost savings and I'm pretty fluent in "making shxt work".

After doing some research im not sure what to do....Common problems with the DNP:

Collector sucks, guys switched to the FP and liked it more.
Crazy hot under hood temps.
Burning/melting Fans.
Can turn CF hood yellow.

I may sound like a total ricer but i own a SRT that will be in the 625 range, so its safe to say i have a 'fast' car. This was going to be a total DD with a decent exterior!!! I mean every day drive anywhere as long as people arent cramped. The tune will obviously be adjusted to stay in the 18-21psi range on pure 93 pump.

Back to the point, it seems i can avoid this huge manifold FIASCO if i get a .55 ar housing and run a External gate o2 housing....this is possible, right?

I know it says it ships with a wastegate flange but where are the pics supporting this design??? Thats kind of the whole reason to go with a tubular set up.

i used a ss header i got for 65 bucks on ebay pre-owned but never used had the external wg flang on it then i made a custom angled spacer between the tubular head adn the turbo (to angel the compressor housing away form the block) and im runnin a jgs external wastegate----fyi bro the hy-35 alot more practicle for streetable driving it comes with a sigle port exhaust housing (9cm) instead of dual port (12cm) wich is what the hx comes with. smaller housing means faster spool plus a sigle port does much beter at high rpm than a dual port. but if u go with the hy u have 2 make a custom dp...not 2 hard if u can fab/weld and its cheaper

I used a cheap ebay header too and it fit with no spacers, but I'd just get slammed again for posting it so let them buy their $700 manifolds.

I slam no one for buying cheap- I'm as budget-minded as they come. I just didn't want fitment headaches and worrying about cracking issues from the weight of the Holset on a knockoff manifold in the coming years.

So the OBX T3 manifold fits, but those super-cheap eBay headers don't even come close unless you cut the flange completely off and reweld it at a much steeper angle so the turbine housing can clear the block:

So back to the original question, do they make a .55ar housing that allows you to mount the wastegate on the O2???

That question has already been answered. The .55 MITSU housing as it is called offers the MITSU o2 flange, the flange looks just like the one that came with your stock turbo bud... once you have this you have to buy an o2 housing that incorporates the external wastegate onto it. Post 4 links you to one of the few choices. With this setup you will have to go with a FP mani or equivalent ('mitsu style'), NOT the T3 style manifold.

the .55ar housing is the DSM Stock style housing. Mitsu flanged
the .70ar housing is the T3 housing, T3 flanged.

So if you want the FP Mani - Mitsu flanged you will need the .55ar BEP housing for your holset.
If you buy a T3 flanged manifold you can go ahead and use the .70ar housing.

This will be my setup
FP Manifold
Holset HX35 .55ar
Punishment recirc o2 w/ 38mm wastegate

Slightly restrictive compaired to the .70ar, but people are making 650 with the .70ar and that is way out of my leauge, I will take the better spool time and use it cause I can, where I wont be able to use the +150 extra horse power.

They made 650+ whp with th .55a/r housing :)

You can't make 650whp easily with a .70 a/r housing with the small hx35 turbine wheel. The tubine housing is only part of the picture ;)

You got me :)
I was 100% in tune to the holset threads when they started but its been a few months.

.70ar is most likly a hx40 thing then?

It seems like this just confirms my thoughts even more. HX35 w/ .55ar is the best total package for the average DSM.

90% of us will never get to that mark, mitsu flanged, cheap, best spool to power ratio.

Holset, turbo of the DSM?

The hx35 turbine wheel and .55 a/r turbine housing likely wont see 650whp. I was simply correcting what the hx40 turbine wheel did with what turbine housing. The hx40 turbine wheel and .55 a/r housing is much different than the hx35 turbine wheel in the .55 a/r turbine housing. You will be a bit restricted if you're trying to push the limits of the 7blade hx35 turbine wheel (60lb/min). But certainly you can see over 50lb/min. And the 8blade hx35 has a 52lb/min map. I like the .70a/r housing for the 7blade hx40. It should allow enough flow through the whole turbine assembly to see the limit of the better flowing compressor wheel.

Yes, the bolton hx35 is more than enough for 90% of us. It's a 500whp turbo as a bolton, 7 or 8 blade version.
