i have a 1990 talon tsi and i recently rebuild the transmission and wanted to chang turbos. i bought a holset hx30 for a good price. i wanted to know if it would work good on my car and what type of manifold someone could recomend, for a t3 turbo. also what would i hav to do to run this turo and what could i expect.i have a walbro 255 fuel pump what else do i need as far as b.o.v. and wastgate. if you can give me some direction that would help alot.

Don't run the HX35 if you don't even know what supporting mods you need. You'll probably end up making less power or screwing something up. Start with a 16g and sell the HX35 to a Honda dork. You'll be glad you tried the 16g first. Holsets are a pain to install and need a bunch of supporting mods to make any worthy power. Running a turbo that size on a stock 2.0 block is asinine. It's not a good street turbo at all.

Lets see: Budget t3 manifold from Punishment racing, 38mm external wastegate, 1g bov or aftermarket upgrade (crush the stock bov), fuel pump, AFPR, bigger injectors (650cc+ depending on boost levels), DSMlink or Afc or DSmap, exhaust, GOOD boost gauge, and new oil feed lines, don't forget to block off your water lines. Oh and a Wideband and Pyrometer never hurt.

I'm just saying that shiat isn't tinker toys and it's a pain to do. Anything can be done though it's just that IDK if the "I got it cheap so I've gotta run it" mentality is the best approach on this one. I'm not doubting your abilities or anything I'm just reminding you of what you already know.

The only HX35 install I've ever seen was with the Bullseye housing and from what I remember fitment was a downright whore especially the weird angle the turbo sat at and how close it came to the block. He ended up scrapping it for a more conventional turbo.

I'm just questioning if the headache is worth the result in this matter. I'm sure if you can tig weld and have an afternoon to spare you could get it fabbed up somewhat decent but all that for lethargic spool and maybe only a tiny bit more top end airflow than a smaller turbo at higher boost levels.

No matter what turbo you have you can only run a certain volume of air through your cylinders so you may as well just get something that is more streetable and responsive than a diesel turbo that isn't gonna spool till the mid 5k rpm range on a stock 6 bolt. You'll have to be revving to 9k plus which really is suited more for the drag strip. Your car would have to be geared toward maximum top end which sucks for a daily driver. I guess it just comes down to what you want and what your goals are. The bolt on Precision turbos are great for pump gas and make excellent power at lowish boost levels. All you have to swap is the oil lines too. Just my $0.02. Good luck man.

he's talking about the hx-THIRTY and not the hx-thirty-five, the hx-THIRTY is smaller than the thirty FIVE, and would be a great turbo for a 2.0L.. around 18g/20g-ish size

I agree with defrag. And even the hx35 isn't even that bad on a 2.0L. With a bullseye turbine housing, many are seeing boost at 3500-3900 rpm. Not bad if you ask me...

That's the route that I'm going with...

Keep in mind that the OP doesn't even have any supporting mods or doesn't know what supporting mods he has.

You're right. Since this is the case, 1g sleeper should do a ton of research, as well as look at the "stages" of mods and go from there. 1g sleeper, you should keep the turbo around, but not use it until you have an overall understanding of dsms and how they must be tuned and modded. Use the holset when you are ready (have all supporting mods)...
