Hmmm, Big 16g or Big T-28 for my first turbo upgrade.

HAHA... Good call, I didn't even notice. When I see a thread that's got new posts since my last visit i just click, read and answer if i can. :p

since this thread is bumped i'd like to ask a couple questions...

I'm about ready to upgrade turbos as my t-25 is on its way out i think.

just wondering which is cheaper the 16g or the T-28 and which is more noob friendly(as far as installing / maintenance / breaking down possibilities) .... Seems like a pain to install the 16g as opposed to the T-28. Id be happy with a 13 second car so getting into the 12's isnt that much of an issue for me. Just a fun street car is my goal.

Oh and my last question is... is it ok to run one of these turbos without fuel mods if you dont turn up the boost??? will get fuel mods eventually, just a little short on cash.

thanks guys

I would say they are around the same price range maybe + or - $75 after everything...As far as install, the t-28 is a lil more noob friendly...both turbos you can run on stock fuel systems as long as you keep them near stock boost levels...

T-28 will be the easiest and the cheapest. The 16g requires an install kit on a 2g, whereas the t28 is a direct bolt-on replacement. Fuel mods first is the best advice, but if you get a boost controller and keep it at stock boost or a few psi below, you should be okay. Just get a logger if you change the turbo so you know if you're knocking or not.

hello guys. i know its an old thread, but i will be going for my first turbo upgrade pretty soon, around the corner..

im awaking the thread by asking a couple of questions**

I own a '98 Eclipse GST

DSM FP Big 28 Turbo, does is bolt right on to the stock Exhaust Manifold? i will be thou swaping in a FP Exhaust Manifold on there (FP DSM Race Manifold) and i know is the same as the stock manifold (which means i can bolt on my T25-Garret to the FP DSM RACE MANIFOLD).

im not looking for something crazy at all, i know too many tuners with Big 16G, i want something different, non of my friends have a Big T28, so i want to play with it see what i can get out of it, i am totaly stock, i bought this car octuber 2010 of 2nd owner, 1st owner was his brother, they didnt mod this car at all, just the radio, put a kenwood in, which i took off.. back to the subject, im keeping this car under the radar (no street racing, no too loud exhaust) but want somekind of more then stock power, to keep up with friends when we go cruising.. please give me some advice and answer my question if you can..

Thank You
Murcielago

EDIT: o wow i just realized the "deflator" answered my question.."The 16g requires an install kit on a 2g, whereas the t28 is a direct bolt-on replacement."-DEFLATOR-

My last car had a slowboy T28 fully ported never ran it on the track but used to smoke my buddies 2g with a big 16g...I dont know how the slowboy T28 compares to new T28s cause I dont believe they make them anymore.

haha. thats pretty good, was ya doing full potential thou? hmm I'm not sure but i know that theres a regular T28 and Big T28 i think, Im not sure thou..

The only real advantage of any t28 variant is the is it a sleeper turbo.

Other than that the 16g variants are almost always all around better turbos. Don't get caught up in the install questions. There is very little extra work to putting on a 16g. It might seem like the difference is big because so many people ask questions about the differences and if you've never changed a turbo it might seem like it is a daunting task but once everything is pulled apart you'll realize it is just nuts and bolts and the whole process is really quite easy.

As far as a 16g variant the only universal thing is that unless you can get a really good deal on a big 16g then you shouldn't pick it up. It is a misconception that the big 16g is between the evo3 16g and small 16g in spool and flow. Instead, the big 16g is equal in spool time to the evo3 16g and flows less, and is slower by quite a bit than the small 16g but barely flows more.

install is a breeze my gsx has a 14b on it right now witch bolts on same as a 16g would and i did it without a install kit. O and power wise my buddys 2g gsx made 350whp with evo 3 16g on 20psi on e85. stock motor just supporting mods
