Hey i was just looking for some feedback on the HKS 264/272 combo. Anybody who is/has ran them im just wondering what some of the positives/negatives are of installing them. Was it a noticeable power gain? :dsm:

I have the cam combo on my 6 bolt with 14b at stock boost at the moment, :D but they spool the turbo pretty well, really nice mid range, very streetable, overall I like the combo.

I was looking at getting some HKS cams for my car too. I was looking at information on here and I found that most people were runnin the 264/272 combo. Well, then I saw that Mike Marnik was just doing a 264 intake cam and keeping the exhaust cam stock. Is that safe? Also, if you went either direction, would you need to get hotter springs? Im grew up in a small block chevy family and I know whenever they changed a cam in a 350, new everything went in. I.E. Bearings, springs, rods, etc.

Im curios to know this too, is it absolutely necessary to upgrade springs and retainers after installing HKS cams?

I didn't want to make another thread, but to keep it short I am getting HKS cams, I will be running a 50 trim with everything else for good power. I'm looking for 400whp, is this cam combo good for that, and how is the idle?

You don't have to, infact quite a few people don't upgrade their springs & retainers. It is recommended, so if you have the spare money then you may as well. Personally I wouldn't bother unless you plan on running some big numbers.

GameOver,

For 400WHP? I'd probably go with a 272/272 combo, it'll definitly help you achieve it a bit easier. As for idle, i heard it can be pretty rough but if its tuned well it won't be a big deal. I would think the 264/272 combo would work good as well, but if your not too concerned about idle i'd go in the direction of 2 x 272's,personally i like the sound of big cams :thumb: . Is your car going to be a daily driver or just a weekend monster?

I've have 272/272 for a few days now. -3 degrees on both intake and exhaust
the car is noticibly laggier down low, but I was expecting. but when it spool its rips ass :thumb:
this is my daily, its still streetable, just have to rev it a lil bit more to get the same job done

Some may say that the bad thing about getting cams is that you may have to feather the gas pedal if you do heavy braking or the car will shut off on you. I know it happens to my cousin's GSX who is running on 264/272 hks cams. Personally, I wouldnt mine it because it sounds like a drag car, which is why Im getting them installed next month!

Thanks for replying, it will be my daily until december or january until I caqn afford 2 grand for a beater. I hear the cars are hard to get started in the winter with cams.

Can anybody agree with him for me to go with 272's?

I have a friend bobby who is running a 50 trim with a 272/272 combo and it idles a little rough but the top end above 6,00rpm is definitely worth it.

I have the 264/264 setup and it was barely noticeable with my FPT28 but with the FPgreen much more noticeable over 5500 RPM. I had to raise my idle to 1000 RPM to get it smooth but I have never had the car stall on me. You will loose a little responsiveness at lower RPM's and it will take slightly longer for your turbo to spool. The stalling must be a 264/272 thing.

 Lets see: My car started just fine in the winter, it NEVER stalled on me when I had it running properly, on the 14b, i could neutral-rev to 7psi like nothing, they feel nice on the street in 3rd gear going from normal 30mph, 2500rpm to half-3/4 throttle, nice smooth pull. I never drove a stock turbo DSM either, as I started out non-turbo. It was a rough idle, but then again i had motor mounts and no balance shafts too. I could get a stable idle under 900 rpm with them too. It just takes some time to tweak them.

Does anyone have a sound clip of their car after the cam installation? I'm curious to hear how they sound. Thanks :thumb:
