I have it on my 99 Gs-t its fitted and works great but I keep hearing all these problems happen if you let it "blow off into the air" instead of back into the intake but I have done my research and found you can get the bypass valve will that solve the problem of the ecu reading the part?

HKS USA Standard Bypass Valve

Theres the link to what im talking about.

venting your bov into the atmosphere (from what i read on here) is bad and causes your car to run improperely. if you do some searching around threads you will find that a significant amount talk about running lean. as for the bypass valve, no idea i don't think i've read about that. look it up! hope this helps...kindof

ive read alot of them but have found nothing about Venting the aftrermarket (HKS) BOV back through the bypass its sequntial.

Yes, I know and sometimes when I punch it, it bogs alittle but what im asking is if this bypass valve will fix the running rich problem and make the ecu run stright again.

:) Thanks! I have a few more questions if you want to try and help me answer them let me know on here thanks!

Ok, I have a few questions but I will just ask one at a time 1st

I just bought an Apex'i N1 DownPipe off this guy for 200 bucks what a deal! now all I need is the Apex'i N1 catback exhaust but my question is if i took the cat off and just welded the DP straight to the test is that illegal? and I dont Have the N1 cat exhaust just the downpipe should I put the Downpipe on now or wait till i get the cat Or full system and will it be a pain in the @ss to get the downpipe off and the new one on?

Yes it is, but who will know? You can just weld it on, but if you have to go though smog/emission test every 2 years, them that'll make your car fail without the cat on.

In this situation, its better off waiting till you get the whole system. It'll just be like bolting it on, no need to cut/weld.

Thanks that was helpful next question I have the stock intake in there now cover with the oem box will i get increased horse power if I buy the K&N filter cone?

I dont have number to show how much HP gain, but you'll definately feel a difference. It sucks in more air giving it better spool. I just put in a knn cone filter on my car last week and felt different.

How mcuh did that run you? Also any other small tunes I could do im not looking for 500 hp just a car with a little kick im more into looks personally I just want that extra horse power I read this article and it told me some simple tune up up some are confusing read them and let me know what you think

so everything was said is right on our cars you need to vent the bov back in or you will run in to the problems you did or will.

in my opinion if your looking for looks and just a lil kik make sure you do all the maintenc on the car that is needed belts, fluids, clutch, brakes do it all, then use the tech guide on here.

My intake pipe and filter kit cost about $140 on ebay.

As 2gdanny said, Do some maintainace on the car. belt's, plugs, plug wire, engine oil, tranny oil etc...etc...

If you want little more power then this is good for you. Tech Guide: 2G 4G63t Upgrades: Stage 1 Power - DSMtuners

As for the link you posted. I didnt get to read all of it. I only got through the 1st one.

I personally wouldn't read those articles considering this quote:
"One of the biggest downsides to the '95 and up Eclipse is the Mitsubishi 16G turbo. The factory 16G turbo offers great low- to mid-range power but falls off in the high rpm range. The factory bypass valve acts as a horsepower governor; by doubling as a pop-off valve and bypass valve and it doesn't allow boost pressure to exceed 15 psi. Thanks to the Turbo XS blow-off valve, bleeding boost pressure is a cinch."

Considering the stock turbo is a T25 and not a 16g, I wouldn't listen to them 100%. While they did test the products on the dyno, they don't seem to know very much for an "import magazine". If you look around on this website you can find so much information it will make your head spin. Oh and since you're asking opinions...

I installed my injen intake (with no BOV recirc tube and my HKS SSQV is venting with no MAFT with no problems), a'pexi n1 downpipe+catback, hallman mbc and a few other things and the "butt" dyno is definately very happy. You won't be disappointed. Just take your time, stick with what works and you'll be very happy with your Eclipse. That is - of course - after you do all your maintenance, you don't want to spend $1400 on performance parts and then bust a timing belt. Good luck!

Thanks twist but i didnt under stand half the things you said now first off the injen intake the hole is oval shaped and all the other brands besides the K&N intake look like they wont fit also what your saying is you have the HKS BOV on yours and nothing happened and you didnt get the bypass valve? i have the N1 downpipe and I am waiting for the N1 Cat back but i was wondering if i shoulod just go illegal for that extra 30 hp or just get a hi flo cat any recomendations?

One of the rules of the forum is no bumping your own thread.

Yes I put my HKS BOV on without recirculating it and it has had no adverse affects on my idle and driving quality, now I have the recirc tube and I can really tell no difference so I just keep venting it until I go with a blow-thru MAFT configuration. Now on the other hand you could try and vent yours but it could cause you problems, some people have issues, while others don't. On my 95 I don't have a high-flow cat, I just went with an a'pexi downpipe+catback with a test pipe on it. I have my resources to not worry about it, plus it's a 95 so I don't have to pass emissions. A high flow cat would be good if it's going to be a DD so you don't fail if you don't have the resources to pass. Don't ask what that means, I'll just say it means *hook up*.

It's easier on your car if you recirculate your BOV, but it might not be necessary on every application (hence how I had no issues while others have major issues). If I was you I would probably go with a high flow cat so you can use the car as a DD and not have any problems. On my Injen intake it is oval shaped by the MAS and then has the circular end to the turbo. On the MAS it should be oval shaped to connect straight to the injen intake. As long as you specify your model then you shouldn't have to worry about the intake, but I would probably get the recirculation fitting, I got it for $20 from MAPerformance for my HKS SSQV, always good to recirc. Just my .02, do what you want! :D

Alright I didn't want to jump in this thread but I am, first of all if you are even going to attempt to vent to the atmosphere the wrong way (is there any right way? :) ) make sure to plug the hole in the intake you just made, though if I were you, I would leave it alone recirc'd. Secondly, I was exactly in the same boat you are in when I first got my 1st dsm (98 gs-t) and wanted to make some quick hp. And also there is no way to simply state, this piece will add 30 "ponies" if installed. there is no way to judge HP/TQ gains on any car because all the components of a car work together, the more supporting mods you have for an upgrade, the more gain you will recieve. Also the gains depend on the stock part you are replacing, for instance, our Upper intercooler pipe on 2g's is trash and you would most likely see more gain from replacing that than you would on another car that came with a more efficient stock piece.

Yet unlike you, I was just after power instead of looks, so I did stupid things the wrong way to try to gain some hp, and I F'd some things up. Couple mistakes and a few grand later, I always read up and fully understand how the part I am working on works and what it does/can do BEFORE trying anything (such as venting, increasing boost etc.)

Like many people said do your maintainence before trying anything such as venting, learn the car, check for leaks/cracks or anything that doesnt look right, catch problems before they happen. And lastly, without any software (such as DSMLink) if you remove the cat (or dont have a bung for your secondary 02 sensor with the catback) you will throw a CEL and it wont go away. So keep this in mind.
