High Voltage Problem

Hey guys im having a bit of a problem with my car I had the battery light go on not to long ago. I took it to a shop and the guy told me that it was the alternator so he ended up replacing it. Now about 6 days later i noticed that my volt gauge is idling at 14 volts, and when I tap the gas it skyrockets to 18 volts. Do I need a new Alt? Or is it any other problem?

If your seeing 18v then you need a good alternator because the voltage regulator in that one is shot.

I have a 6 bolt in my car do you know if i would need a 1gen Alt or 2gen alt?

the 2g alternator stays.

Check on the wiring to the alternator the 2G alternator has 4 wires running to the 4 pin plug and the B+ wire to the stud where the 1G wiring used 2 wires in a 4 pin plug plus the B+ wire to the stud.
