High Pitched Wheel Speed Whistle or Squeal

I think I have the exact same problem the noise is like a wheel bearing noise but when I turn left or right no changes in pitch or anything. Same if the car is in gear or not it seems to be based on vehicle speed only I noticed some grease leaking from the boot near the carrier bearing, my axel does not make any noise turning or anything so I suspect the bearing on the axel support is bad. The trans shifts perfect and was rebuilt according too the previous owner... I'm trying too rule things out here thankfully I have a complete drivers side axel and carrier bearing from my talon that I am scrapping. I hope its not in the transmission. I have a Thermal R&D exhaust and the noise is louder then that at 80km/h I can't stand it. :ohdamn:

I think it is a transmission problem. I think I narrowed it down to a transmission bearing, even though it shifts fine and runs smoothly. From what I've read, bad trans bearings require an entire rebuild or a new transmission, unfortunately. Don't quote me on that, though.

I don't have a ton of cash flow to play with, so an entire new tranny is out of the question for the time being. Probably the best thing to do would be to top off with Lucas and let it run until you've saved up enough, if you're in my situation. I don't think a bad trans bearing will damage the engine as long as something drastic doesn't happen to it.

I've heard the words 'oil starvation' thrown around a little bit in the case of bad bearings, can anyone validate that rumor?

my 98gsx has a whistle in the front and i know its a wheel bearing but havin't got around to fix it . if its raining out you won't hear it cause the water acts as a lubricant . in warm weather while driving along a fence or a gaurd rail you can hear it.

I just got this problem on my 1G. I found ripps along my CV boots and leaking grease all over! If you check around your boots and see it leaking thats your problem! It only cost 30$ and thats a cheap fix :)!!! I hope this helps someone out.

Okay, so it wasn't the transmission because me and a friend dropped the old trans and clutch and stuck a brand new tranny and a stage 3 back in their place, ended up buying the wrong clutch plate and cussed for a week before realizing it was the incorrect one. Anyway, the noise still persisted even after the work. Did some more research and found that it could be either 1. cheap brakes, or 2. the indicator wall is bent too closely to the rotor and is scraping it. Other than that, I have no idea. I would be tempted to say that I accidentally cheaped out on brakes and that's what the sound is. But the good news is that it's nothing to worry about, just a noise.
